  • This is a cool app! Thanks! 😎👍🏼

  • @Blue_Mangoo - I notice that for some stations if you don't use mobile mode any effects added to an AUM channel don't work. It seems like those stations that don't feature a 'start ios audio' button are affected. It's not a fault of your app but thought you may like to know in case anyone sees it as a bug.

Could you give me an example of a station that has that problem? I will pass it on to the developer.

  • At first I was thinking, I already have the Radio Unit AU from BeepStreet, why would I need this. But then I watched the demo and it is really cool. I'm still not sure I need to buy it (when out of beta) but in general it looks very cool and useful.

Same. I love scrolling through the spectrum. I think some of the weird noises are brilliant, and I’m already using them for hi hats and enveloped percussion.

It would be really great is sweeping through the frequency spectrum (channels) could be exposed. I would love to map an LFO to that.

    @Blue_Mangoo http://tulasdr.fvds.ru:8901/

In the full Web mode you get a "start audio" button which you need to press as you access the page but there is also a "start iOS audio" which has no effect unlike on other sites. In this case, no effects in the AUM channel seem to be applied. Of course, I can use the mobile version but sometimes the full mode gives me greater control over the modulation, bandwidth and frequency range etc. Thanks...👍

That would be quite amazing, I guess the App would have to use whatever range the SDR gave it, I wonder if that’s even possible?

  • This is really cool, seems to work with split screen too, so can run in AB3 and still do some other stuff. Nice one @Blue_Mangoo

+3. scanning the spectrum as an AU parameter would be amazing. This is amazing! Add some delays and reverb, and it's dronezone all the way!

Also, i think it was mentioned, but being able to have audio without AU window open would be great.

If you want to save a channel as a preset, you can use the "Memories" tab in the Web version. These are stored on a per server basis, but are also then available in the mobile version and are saved with the frequency and modulation...👍

    interesting. Thank you.

  • @Blue_Mangoo if it can be useful for implementing state saving, a “tune” query parameter can be added to the URL:
    http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/?tune=198am

    (It’s in their FAQ)

  • Really cool app, I’ve been sampling it into my SK-5 for pure crisp

I think I found the best method to use this in Drambo without worrying about audio dropouts, and without sacrificing track 1.

On MAIN track, pin the module browser, and add new track modules until you exceed the 16 track limit. This creates a 'ghost' track that can be accessed from both views from the top right corner. On the ghost track (track 17) add WebSDR. Then add a Feedback Send module. On track 1 (or any track you want the WebSDR sound on) add a Feedback Receive module. Go back to the ghost track, click the 'fdbk receive' output, scroll to track one, and connect it to the Feedback Receive module itself. Now audio will flow from the ghost track to track 1. You can now put the WebSDR app in the small expanded view without losing audio. Make sure to turn the master level on the ghost track to 0.

If any Drambo users are interested in a video tutorial or more clear instructions just let me know.

Don’t think I need a video, but ... how do I access track 17 to add the feedback module?

If you use either of the buttons on the top right (the hamburger or grid icons). The hamburger icon will bring you to the extended track view, where you can scroll all the way to the bottom for track 17. Hope that helps!

  • Cool, I’ve been getting into SDR prompted by another thread around here around Christmas.

3 months later I have 2 dongles (a dedicated FlightAware one and an RTL-SDR for general use with SDR Sharp on the laptop), a FlightAware antenna, a 10m fibreglass mast and 3 Raspberry Pi’s.

    It escalated quickly.

Will pick the app up when released no problemo.

  • Anyone got any faves station/freqs?
Some of these seem to drift so may not be entirely accurate

    7168.88LSB
    3730.36LSB
    7303.69AM
    14600.04USB
    11860.33LSB
    82.63AM

    :)
I use this alongside drones and arpeggios putting websdr through spring verb and TTAP to add interesting glitchy bleeps and spooky vocals!
    :))

  • This is so cool! Had no idea WebSDR was a thing. Did buy an SDR years ago and made an antenna out of wire and kebab skewers lol, it was kinda fun but unwieldy for something I’m only mildly curious about, so it’s great to be able to access it from the comfort of my iPad :)

17614 AM for some Islamic chants and prayers. (This seems to work best on the University of Twente server in the Netherlands).

does anyone know can you get air traffic control radio chatter on this app? that would be pretty cool to sample from

  • Got some hams chatting about receivers was fairly random.... picked up some phonetics alphabet call signs... always interesting to eavesdrop...
iPhone 6 is a bit weird scaling wise, but that’s not unique!
    :)

The hams only seem to have one topic of conversation - receivers, aerials and such like....😁

  • Lol @enkaytee ....Mhmm nice warm mellow signal!
    Riveting it was not!
    Ham talk is ham talk!

NA5B WebSDR (#71) has the AM Air band beginning around 118Mhz. I just tuned to it and heard some ATC chatter.

It always seems funny to me that a group of socially awkward nerds decided to form a hobby around amateur radio where the goal of using all that technology is to talk to strangers. I used to own a shortwave transceiver and I can assure you that it’s uncomfortable to start up a conversation with a total stranger who you can’t see and can’t hear very clearly. The self-preservation instinct inside is screaming for you to find a safe topic of conversation, hence you always end up talking about your antenna; never about politics, love, or religion.

I work on ATC so just talk to myself 😅

@eross I actually used to use one of the robot talking music apps from way back forgotten its name now like 4 pockets Lyricist to program up with voice scripts to act as my pilot for talk back inside Audiobus when practicing aircraft and helicopter emergencies talk downs etc. Useful when I couldn't get in a proper ATC simulator.

Ah the 'good ole days' of Amateur (Ham) Radio, Lol. These days it is a lot more accessible and convenient due to the explosion of the digital modes and no code requirement for a Technician Class license. Hotspots are the rage. With a $75 radio and $75 digital radio hotspot I can talk to folks all over the planet day or night. They even have iPhone and Android apps that allow licensed Hams to communicate on Amateur bands. It is really incredible.
