THU or GE Labs?

I'm before purchasing some amps and fx for my guitar. Bias FX is not in a game so I'm considering this two collections.
Any advantages on each side? Will I recognize differences in the quality if I'm not professionalist? :)

First, you can download and try each at no cost. TH-U can run as an AU which makes it easier to incorporate into a workflow. GE is not as stable for some people as TH-U. Which sounds better seems to be a matter of personal opinion without a strong consensus having emerged.

GE Labs is free, for their entire collection. You can try every single component they have for free. It’s only saving a preset that costs money. So you can pay for a few or have unlimited, it’s still the best price in town.

You should try it and see if it’s good for you, if you don’t like it then go to TH-U. It is more expensive, but the effects are better quality and the amps sound more realistic. It’s also Auv3. You can “log in” to th-u and get more free stuff beyond the demo, even some rig player profiles.

I really like GeLabs as well, but it sounds just a little more “proceeded” to me. It is very good though. It is IAA only and seems to work best only at 44.1kHz. You should try everything in GE Labs and buy 1 preset to save your work. You never know, it could be all you need. TH-U is more stable and the devs are much more involved, but it will cost you. Hope this helps.

  • I auditioned both. My problem with GE Labs is that I wanted to use it in AUM and it just wasn't stable. It eventually turned into a very loud buzz, forcing me to kill the app. This was back in November, I think.

That being said, I was also immediately more impressed with the sound of THU for clean sounds which I'm primarily after. I'm currently recording where I need to use multiple instances of modelers so the fact that it's an AU sealed the deal.
