Revving an age old question. Do I factory reset my MacBook Pro?
Do you think a factory reset and starting over with it may clean out the cob webs and help this thing run better? It is 6 years old but it has mostly the same stats as the current one. Pro versus Cons.

Unlike windows machines macs don’t get as ‘dirty’ with use. It may restore some corrupt directories or if you download funky content, get rid of viruses though.
I never found noticeable difference in performance after a reinstall unlike after an ssd upgrade in older macs.
I'd try running some maintenance apps first before considering a re-install...
Onyx is long-time favorite of mine.
I usually run it 1 or twice per year to do some 'cleanup'.

(Get the correct version for your macOS version)
The only times I've ever needed to do complete re-install were when I was messing with beta versions of macOS.
First try CleanMyMac. I think it has a trial period, and it also comes with the SetApp free trial.
I'd avoid that app since it's a pita to get rid of all the 'nag ware' it leaves behind...
I just uninstalled it and they went away. I now have it again on SetApp and it doesn't do the nagging; I only launch it occasionally to run specific checks, and it's been fine.
I like Onyx too. Very good for cleaning bits. There aren't too many applications I feel happy using at that level, but that one is pretty decent. I don't mind doing a clean reinstall either, but you need time and you need to be organised. Reinstalling of programmes. Knowing what you want to reinstall. Sometimes though if you've installed and uninstalled a lot of applications it might not be a bad thing to just nuke it and start afresh - good for the mind. Makes you feel you just got a new computer, pretty hard to argue against that.
I do a fresh OS install about once a year or so, and I've been very glad I do. It forces you to have a well laid out and easy to use back up scheme, and I never have to worry about outdated drivers or some other weirdness causing issues. I do a lot of beta testing of apps for different companies too, so it's nice to clean out all the older beta versions of things once a program is done and released.
I work a lot with our support team at Ableton, and 9 times out of 10 when we get someone running into crashes and other audio issues they can't solve a full reinstall fixes all the problems.
Necessary? No, but it certainly can't hurt if it's been 6 years since you last did it. Plus you tend to get some extra HD space back as well. In the short term, another vote for Onyx as well, used that for years with no issues.
Most Helpful righteous friends.... I left out important details in the post, I am an iOs developer with only 13 gigs free on my mbp. Every time i work on an app. it overflows and gets slow as f*ck. I paid for the clean my mac and use dev cleaner regularly. I am going to do a fresh factory install only download x code and chrome and use this only for apps.
TO SUMMARIZE USE ONYX FOR MOST CLEANING. TRY CLEAN MY MAC BUT IT HAS NAGWARE. IN EXTREME EXAMPLES FACTORY INSTALLS ARE TIME CONSUMING BUT FREE UP ALL POSSIBLE EXTRA SPACE.... same as it always was just only reset when necessary and you have explored the other options.

.....the reset is the final option flush out the betas and start clean. My laptop is going be Benjamin Buttons (outdated on the outside but fresh inside).
Take care of yourselves and each other
I appreciate the gracious help.
