Volume Peak Limiter - suggestions?

I’m looking at getting a limiter - anyone got any suggestions?
The Amazing Noises one seems to be well liked - it’s only £3.99 - then there is TB Barricade, also well liked but three times the price at about £12.99. Then there is the one from WU which is even cheaper at £1.99
I just want something that will absolutely stop/limit surprise bursts of volume by keeping a lid on them - caused mainly at the moment by Looperator on random mode, but there are many other scenarios where for whatever reason something loud will burst through uninvited and unwelcome 😬
What do you think?

  • Amazing noise one has done the job with no issues for me for absolutely years

  • Toneboosters has true peak limiting.
It also includes a clipper, compressor and handy luffs meter.

The Amazing Noises limiter is very good to protect gear and ears when messing with plug-ins.
TB Barricade has a lot of other goodies as well.
TB stuff also goes on sale from time to time...

  • +1 for Amazing Noises Limiter, but you can likely get the results you want from a compressor, too.

If you're up for some experimenting, a ratio of 20:1 with fast attack and release times is a good starting point. I wouldn't go much below a 10:1 ratio for limiting. Set your threshold close to your maximum desired audio level.

For a clean/transparent sound, avoid analog emulations or compressor features that add color/character/warmth.

  • OK Thanks - I think I’ll go for the Amazing Noises one.

    Yes, “Barricade” by Toneboosters.

  • Oops - to late 😀 but the Amazing Noises is doing pretty much what I wanted though maybe not absolutely totally so I may look at the TB at some time. Cheers.

  • Barricade is the pick of the bunch IMO. There’s also a peak limiter in AUM
