Can FieldScaper work as an audio effect (live input)?

... like Borderlands, Spacecraft, FRMS etc, or does it only work with samples, or fixed length recordings triggered by Record/Stop?

I’ve read the app description etc and watched Igor’s demo videos but it’s not clear whether I could for example, use it as an effect in AUM to receive real time input.

Keen to pick it up in the current sale if it accepts live input. Already picked up SoundScaper and love it in a what the heck does half of these controls do sort of way.

  • If I recall. You can speak into a mic so fieldscaper effects will effect voice in real time. I bought a mic just for fieldscaper.

Ok thanks ... I’m wondering though if I can use Fieldscaper as a an audio effect in AUM, where it will accept a live audio stream as input rather than me hitting Record/Stop to fill its audio buffer.

I can speak with fieldscaper effects because of a threshold. When I stop speaking the effect will stop. Then speak again and there be an effect. Sort of like reading a book with effects, without pressing buttons or actually recording loops. You could use a nanokontrol in a car with a mic and headset and prank people through speakers. Nanokontrol was just for extra turnado etc. Someone might confirm though. Its just an iaa also.

  • I will see if I can remember how it works.

  • yep - it works great for what you want.
    use its "looper mode"!

I agree. The definition of "crazy but good crazy"

  • Yes, in looper mode. This is one app where it pays off to RTFM or better yet, watch the outstanding videos by @MarkH. It’s extremely deep but also idiosyncratic in its approach and GUI.

Useful thanks ... I searched for a downloadable manual but couldn't find one. Is there one? Soundscaper has a built in help system but that seems to be it.

If you think that's idiosyncratic just wait until you see what he's got coming next :o

Can’t wait for BeatCutter ... I’m trying to get a sense of whether BeatCutter will be more useful than FieldScaper, if the two share enough similarities for it to make sense to economise and choose one.

Let me put it this way: I took one look at the screenshot on his website, closed the tab and poured myself a tall one 🤣

If Beatcutter's inspiration is drawn in any way from the following video as Igor mentions on Twitter, then it's even more droolsome:

There's nothing on any platform with similarities to Beatcutter, not even apps by the same dev. It's truly a unique beast.

Since you appear to have some insights, could you elaborate a bit? ETA would be nice, the website mentions large audio files or live performances, what’s that all about?

Am curious to find out more too. It's not easy to get any sense of the guts of this thing from what's currently disclosed online.
