Using Launchpad with a powered hub on the ipad?

I have a lightening to usb connector this does not have a port for charging. If I use something an atolla Powered USB 3.0 Hub 20W, 7 Multi USB Data Ports can I use this with my existing camera connection kit with the Launchpad Pro? Or will I still need another connection kit with the external power port?
Many thanks in advance.

To power/charge an iPad/iPhone, you need the Apple USB 3 Camera Adapter, with the Lightning power port alongside the USB port. The iPad/iPhone does not receive power from the USB connector. Your powered hub will power any connected bus-powered devices.

Thanks for your prompt reply. So theorically the Launchpad will draw its power from the usb hub?

Practically , yes , the Launchpad will get the juice needed from the powered hub

Certainly. That's what "powered hub" means, that it can power attached USB devices. Mine is powering everything, including 2 iPads.

If you need a hub simply for the Launchpad ,maybe consider buying a cheaper powered hub and invest on an Apple CCK3 to charge your iPad ...

Wait a minute , does the Launchpad Pro have a power supply ?

Launchpad X and Pro don’t have power inputs and they require more power than lightning iPads will allow unless you supply power through a cck or hub.

There are 2 versions of Launchpad Pro , the new one called MK3 and the old called Original...
The old one (original) has 12V input .
Hope it makes it clear :)

Actually, it's the one you mentioned, Atolla 20W 7 port. It retired a handful of other adapters.

Does Atom support feedback to the controller? Every controller is different, so the app has to specifically support it. LK has been progressively implementing these interfaces.

Beware, I have a very expensive powered USB hub, that will not power the Launchpad X, im not saying all powered hubs wont work, but this high power one wont, it powers other peripherals fine, but not the X, but the X works fine directly connected to the CCK3, as long as you dont use an Apple (cheapest we could find) USB plug.

Are you using the CCK with or without power? My Launchpad x works with my Apple CCK but only ic power is supplied to the CCK VIA lightning

As for the Launchpad , you must wait for the developer or someone else ,to write a script for Atom and Launchpad Pro Original (not mk3)

Yes powered CCK, but only with a real plug, not the terrible Apple one.

Not sure what you mean by "a real plug". Mine works fine powered with the Apple power adapter that came with my iPad

I have tried a plug that came with an Air, one that came with the Mini 5, and one that came with the 2019 base, non would power the LP, ones from Samsung tab 6 worked fine and all the 2.4 3rd party i tried worked.

I stand corrected. I just tried tried with a bunch of Apple power adapters and they didn’t work. I guess I mostly have been powering it from my MacBook Air’s USB powered or had it connected to a powered hub.

This is brilliant. However, this only seems to work for the Launchpad Pro MK3.
Should the script inside Atom2 work for all Launchpads. If so I must be doing something wrong in my setup. There are 3 exposed Midi Ports in AUM once Launchpad Pro is plugged into the ipad. Which if any of these ports need to be dirrected to Atom? Thanks in advance

  • The currently supported controllers are Launchpad X, Mini Mk3, Pro Mk3, with more underway. For the more adventurous, you can add a custom script to integrate with your controller, but that’s pretty advanced stuff. Happy to help if you have coding skills.

Rats, I figured that was the problem. Will new scripts be added in the future to support us “oldies”?
Or a dedicated patchstorage or simular?
