Love my Roland A-49!

edited April 2021 in General App Discussion

Bought a Roland A-49 two days ago and I love it!
What is needed in a keyboard controller varies from one person to another but the A-49 fits my bill.

  • 49 full size keys
  • keyboard action and feel that agree with how I play, it's a joy to play!
  • relatively lightweight and small footprint
  • connects to iPad
  • has a DIN connector MIDI out

Unforeseen extra feature, the D-Beam is a lot of fun. At first I considered it to be kind of a gimmick but after a bit of practice, I can achieve pitch modulations that I could not do with a pitch-bend wheel or lever.

It's easy enough to connect to an iPad even if it's a bit cumbersome as you have to press 2 buttons simultaneously while connecting it to switch its driver.

Those wanting many knobs, sliders and pads should pass. There are only 2 knobs and 2 assignable buttons here.

In fact when I went into the store, I was thinking of buying an Arturia Keystep but I saw the A-49 and I loved the full size keys and feel of its keyboard (for a synth action). And having 49 keys is great when playing those synth apps! I may still buy a Keystep though.
