Deleting Apps
I usually don’t delete apps I don’t use anymore...not sure why, I guess I want to like them. Today I finally deleted Auria Pro. This is an app I invested quite a bit of time with. I stopped using it and switched to Cubasis for stability reasons mainly some time ago. Every once and awhile I’d start a project and have it crash or end up spending 15 minutes trying to make something work only to find out it’s a known issue or end up referring to the manual.
It’s really a relief...
Anybody else have app deletion aversion syndrome?
Comments
I don't have any reason to delete apps unless I'm running out of space. I have no aversion to deleting them if I do need space. I know people vary on this, some seeing an unused app as clutter or distraction. I don't think that way.
iOS now has the option to "offload" apps without losing your work. That's an option I use on my iPhone which has limited space. I would never enable the global option where iOS decides what to offload. I only enable it for selected apps.
I just deleted some of the crudbyte apps that I never ever used forever.
The Asian one and the cathedral organ!
I’m still at a point where I bought a bunch of apps I haven’t even used yet. But at least I have stopped buying. I only delete apps that I haven’t invested in beyond the free demo, such as Bias or Amplitube etc... as a preventative measure. Not ready to give up on Auria yet, but I feel you.
Midi wrench ain't bad though. I use that quite often.
I filled up my 128GB of iPad storage so fast that I turned on the automatic delete oldest first
option. So, I never have to decide. I just reach for an app and discover I need to re-install it.
It's often just a few minutes of annoyance.
But sometimes, it's a Crudebyte monster that I want to crank up and then it's several hours.
I've been using iSymphonic and will keep it around now that I realize I can use multiple
MIDI tracks in AUM if I load the IAA instance... that's powerful and also a lot more stable
than trying to run 6 copies to make an orchestra.
But I dream of an iPad with 1TB of storage so everything is just there when I scan the AUv3 or IAA lists in AUM.
I keep as many as possible but have had to Offload a few large apps that I keep in a folder, and redownload if needed.
I'm on an app deletion spree at the moment to help me focus on using the apps I already have.
Currently down to roughly 380 apps from +500 or so and don't miss a single one of the deleted apps.
Lots of 'stuff' that has been collected during the years, no offense to the developers but UI and over all functionality and usability are important factors wether an apps tays or goes on my iPad.
The selection is simple, start an app and see if it 'clicks'. If it doesn't it's gone...
I lit a candle and had some wine after I read about you deleting Auria Pro. That’s a big one..
I will frequently go through times where I’ll delete everything (almost) and then I’m slowly pulled back into re-loading apps one at a time. I actually bought a new iPad and told myself I would only use one app for all my stuff. Slowly they crept back in, now it looks as crowded as ever.
So ... all you have left are metronome apps?
Not really...
I don't have a single dedicated metronome app
'Click' can also mean that it works the way I need it to work...
Funny timing with this original post for me.... I deleted Aria Pro around 6 months ago or longer and just today, installed it again. Mainly because I wanted to mess around with the Fab Filter Synth apps + Volcano that aren’t on iOS but I don’t want to buy on my Mac. The experience hasn’t been the greatest but it’s better than I would have guessed - the app is more functional today than it was when I deleted it.
I think reducing the number of apps is a good thing. Better going deep into a few. The shorter selection lists are great. Next step would be deleting all presets but my own but I think that’s even harder.
I have the opposite. I can’t stand having a bunch of apps. I keep my phone super limited. My iPad has significantly more but still doesn’t have everything. I find that I work more efficiently when restricted rather than having too many options. I’ve also bought a lot of apps that I will never use that, honestly, I wish I could get refunded or even just delete from my purchase history.
“Time?” You spelled “money” wrong.
I spent well over $150, and they took no interest in helping me solve the “crash on launch” problem I had for years.
Zing.
Just did the math and I can get away with 20 on the iPad. I try to stick to 9 on my iPhone.
Same, I have very few apps on my phone or iPad at any one time. Much easier and more productive for me to keep just the handfull I know I'll use versus having them all on there at once. Plus, it's so easy to just download them again if I need something real quick. Pretty rare I ever do that.
Exactly. I just counted how many I actually use on my iPad and I can stick around 20, including mixing and mastering. I have more because there are some apps that are just plain fun.
On my phone right now, I have Cubasis, BLEASS Alpha, EG Pulse, and Bass 808. For composition and arrangement, that’s all I need. I could add Kronecker and Lagrange if I want more variety in my synths. I would add Continua and Agonizer if if they were universal.
Beyond that, I have Pure Acid, Endlesss, and Flip primarily for fun. Though I’m hoping to start to using those in actual projects.
On my iPad, basically add AUM, Audioshare, ToneBoosters suite, FAC Phazer, FAC Maxima, FuzzPlus 3, Grind, and a couple other effects.
Never been a better time to delete stuff! Today is Deletion Day 2021.
Perfection.
I just deleted Drambo and FRMS. I found I was only using miRack for modular, and I much prefer iPulsaret, Tardigrain and SpaceCraft for granular...Quanta will probably go next. You have to be ruthless sometimes; 64GB mini 5 here, and my AudioLayer sample sets are eating up lots and lots of space.
I thought I felt a disturbance in The Force.
Do not reveal your location. The Empire has a long reach.
I must admit to crossing my fingers and saying a little prayer before posting... and I'm not a religious man.
I tried to make Beatmaker 3 work for me for waaaay too long before deleting it. It's such a slow workflow just to get started and comes with so few presets/sounds. I understand that people like the sampler, but since Koala sampler came out, idk what the draw is other than it's (iffy, stability-wise) auv support.
Same with FL studio mobile. I regret buying both of these daws. It's korg gadget all day for me now.
