M-Audio Oxygen Pro "MIDI mapping" - nice try

Just a short PSA, it may help someone not to fall into the same trap.

I bought it. Nice piece, good keys! But it doesn't properly map to Logic (and good luck with iOS apps, too), in direct contrast to what the marketing BS claims. M-Audio offers no info or support whatsoever at this time, other than officially telling you not to even use their own "Logic" setting on the keyboard which is rather LOL. They don't respond to questions asked through their official customer site or twitter account, either. So I'm returning it, sadly. I like my other products from them, I wanted to like this one, too.

Ps. It's remarkable how some well-known YouTube reviewers just smoothly lie to your face ("I tried it with Logic and it works").

  • Just a quick update to this one: M-audio replied after three weeks (!) and gave no answer at all. All they did was referring me to the exact same article I mentioned in my question. So the consultation is their Oxygen Pro keyboards have no real support for full Logic mapping. The keyboard was returned in the meantime, so this is just a closing remark, to help others avoid their marketing trap.

Yes, I have nothing really to add but that I don’t like M-Audio. I returned two of their MIDI keyboards including an Oxygen and finally went with an Arturia.

On another note, why doesn’t someone make cooler looking MIDI keys. Need some boutique MIDI. They’re all fugly

  • Fair point. :)

In fairness, I was lucky with M-audio before this. I bought a sustain pedal first. Okay, that's probably hard to really screw up. Then I bought their Air 192/6 audio interface which I absolutely love using both for ios and mac. So I had hopes for the keyboard as well. Oh well.

  • ... And this is how the more cautious "journalists" word their PR-smelling articles. Note how much work the "it seems" and the "it should be" doing in this para. :)

  • Have you tried just midi mapping it yourself? It shouldn’t take that long.
I midi mapped an M Audio Oxygen 61 second gen for both pro tools and reaper, it took about two hours.
Does logic have midi learn? That would be even easier.
