Crazy... I don't know if I shall be happy or be angry.
Precisely.
Yeah, I'm not sure what to think about this either.
Though, I will say... after one of his shows I went to an after party where he was present. At this party they were playing random sounding stuff from his "vault". Much of it was instrumental and all of it was absolutely stellar. I've never heard any of it released. So, if they're going through this vault and releasing stuff... I'm definitely intrigued.
When I was in college, I had a friend who was active in the Prince fan club and bootleg swapping scene. He once claimed that Prince’s archive was so extensive that if he never recorded another note, he could still release an album a year for the remainder of his life. This was in 1993-94, so add 25 years of accumulation, and....
Well, never had the chance to hear it live...As I'm crazy about Prince, I'm happy to hear new songs...
I heard interviews with engineers and producers saying that he was an absolute perfectionist and there is likely mountains of unreleased gold or at least interesting ideas worth hearing. I think as long as it is released with knowing that it didn't make his personal cut at the time there is nothing wrong with it being out there.
The filmmaker / entertainment ‘personality’ Kevin Smith tells a story in his standup act about the time that Prince told him to come out to his home and then had him film something for him. It’s a very strange and funny story, but Smith also mentions that after it was finished it went in the vault and it was never seen by anyone besides them. Prince must have TONS of material which was never seen or heard.
Prince was my Phish/Grateful Dead
Seen him about 40 times.
Only disappointing shows were the ones I didn’t get to go to. As far as I’m concerned I’ve seen all the best Prince shows
Wow...I wish I lived in the US just for that...
I used to know someone who had been given a tour of the vault and said much the same thing.
Edit: I’m also conflicted about the releasing of the archives, one the one hand, he possibly didn’t want it released, but on the other, even the stuff he really hated is still going to be on another level and light years ahead of the very best output from most other artists. Either way, for me Prince lives on anyway through the work of the artists he helped lift up, especially Lizzo.
Is it sacrilege if I say there were a couple times I enjoyed Morris Day more?
I mean.....lol....
@AlmostAnonymous I've seen the Time live once ! (south of France)
Loved it...No sacrilege here !
Also saw Bootsy Collins, George Clinton...Well...Super good vibes...But the purple Yoda is missing...
