Ampify Removing Packs from Store from Groovebox This Week

An in-app notification indicates that an unspecified number of packs will soon be removed from the IAP selection. The supposed reason is that having all that choice has hampered our creativity.

Just thought I would pass this on in case any of you had your eye on some of the kits that might be gone soon.

  • I've only got the 'free' packs (and unlocked all the current instruments) so I won't mind that much.

What I would like is to get a new 'Instrument' (for user samples) and also option to populate the drum kit with user samples.
(I'd honestly pay IAP for this functionality) and well 'landscape mode' for iPhone so I could access more notes for chords etc.

Groovebox is one of the most used apps on my iPhone 8.
For the iPad adding LPPro3 to GrooveBox would be sweet!
(I love the play there grid more than traditional keys).

Hopefully @AmpifyxNovation will chime it when it's time...

  • aka the Persian rug dealer‘s going out of business sale.

  • That’s very kind of them, now that’s what I call customer care. Other industries take note.

If only they were so considerate at fixing ancient bugs and creating a user filing system for Blocs Wave... ah well, can’t have it all.

No :) The real reason is that you can’t have more than a certain amount of IAPs. So, they have to remove some otherwise they won’t be able to add new packs

LOL, I guess this isn’t just that one store down on Granville Street.

Really? There are way more packs in Blocs Wave and Launchpad.

  • They say you will be able to still access them after they are removed but I don’t see how that’s possible if you have to reinstall or change iPads?

That would be a good question to ask them. It is possible that restore purchases can grab them, but I don’t know that for sure.

If this is indeed the case, and if it’s being claimed as an aid to creativity, it’s a new highpoint in cynicism.

I haven’t really forgiven them for their shooting down Circuitry and replacing it with nothing.

  • What? Seriously?

  • I just want sample import for the drum-kits and a new sampler/slicer-instrument with user sample support :)
(GrooveBox is next to Koala and GarageBand the most used music app on my iPhone 8).

  • How do I download my purchased packs?

  • If they’re going to remove them anyways, they should have just made them free. @AmpifyxNovation?

Diluting the pool with free stuff may get in the way of selling the sound packs that generate the money to pay their employees.

Hmm, looks like I was wrong. A few years ago someone told me about the maximum number of IAPs to be a bit low and I believed them without checking. I checked it now and it seems to be 10k. Sorry for the confusion

You should just see an option to reinstall if you click on that same pack from the store again

Thanks for checking. I was starting to wonder myself.

Samu, is there a way to access an alternative keyboard or pads within groovebox? I don’t think I completely followed the comment above but it piqued my interest! I don’t know what LPPro3 is either...

It is weird they are removing packs sorta but that store is a bit much in my opinion and there is quite a bit of parody as well. I’d guess that they are probably going to remove older packs in favor of newer of the same genre.

It's not the first time, I remember them removing some Launchpad packs several years ago.

UPD. I just found this topic: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/13605/launchpad-for-ios-15-soundpacks-on-sale-today

We're removing them to keep the store or good working order, and prevent it from getting too big. There are a few technical reasons why doing this is good, but mainly we want to keep the store fresh.

There's currently no alternate keyboard or pads but it's possible to select how many notes of the selected scale is shown.
On the iPad it's possible to access way more notes (to play chords etc.) on the screen compared to the iPhone.

LPPro3 is the Novation Launchpad Pro Mk 3 (Pad Controller).

Novation's LaunchKey Keyboards are as far as I know fully supported in Groove Box.

Personally I prefer to play 'Pads' rather than 'Keys' so having similar support for the Launchpad would be awesome...

    Cheers!

  • Thanks @Samu!

That is my main question, so will those packs be there when I get a new iPad? Otherwise this is really disappointing since there is no way to backup them.

  • I think it used to be the case that purchases already made could be reinstalled if no longer in the store but this has changed just a few months ago. I wanted a previous purchase on my new iPad- but no longer on the AppStore so no longer able to reinstall it 😕 (it was LP-5)

  • Great reason to never buy IAP ever again. 😡

  • That’s crazy but i haven’t heard their reasoning
Now what sounds are they taking away? I assume the oldest or least sold packs?

  • This really is weird logic^^^
Have too many choices hindering creativity??
    Well download everything now!!!!

    Haha what?

If you've got 1000000 kicks to go thru you'll spend more time browsing for kicks than actually making music :)
Say you'd only have a TR-909, Juno-106, M1, Akai S950 and a mixer with a bunch basic effects. Would that be a limitation?

I hope that Ampify will focus on adding more functionality for future updates...

  • 'Where there is silence there is space for creativity' - taken to heart perhaps?

If it was that simple there would be no free packs in any app ever...
