Flip Sampler

Is anyone flipping anything with Flip Sampler? Seeing a huge community on FB and YT for Koala. Wondering if there is anything similar for Flip. I just bought. Still figuring it out. Not to impressed to be honest.

Comments

  • Get a refund and get Koala if you don’t already have it.

  • Both are fun and each does stuff that the other doesn't. I have videos in which I abuse both on my YT channel.

At first, I wasn't impressed by either one but I've come to enjoy both!

  • I've got both on my iPhone 8 but Koala definitely get's used a lot more!

I don't like the 'auto normalize' in Flip and it's 'slower'(think sampling and re-sampling) to work with compared to Koala.
There's also no destructive trim in Flip and it doesn't 'remember' the start & end point of saved samples.
Flip does have the 'edge' on per sample settings (filters etc.) and parameter automation & editing.

My pick for now is definitely Koala with the Samurai IAP.

  • Flip is a really nice halfway point between a DAW workflow (piano roll, drawn automation) and a hardware workflow (hands-on, live manipulation). I still find myself gravitating towards Beatmaker 3 but keep Flip around because some day I’m going to learn it better.

There isn’t as large of a community as you get with Koala, but there’s a bit of activity now and again on Facebook — I follow both the Flip Sampler page and Andrew Huang. Flip seems to repost tracks every day or two, which tells me that you could assemble a pretty decent feed if you started following individual artists.
