Mozaic has a few arp scripts. Inorderarp is one, arpticles, AU hasard-generates random notes based off your scale and other settings
What you describe here is exactly the kind of thing I have in mind. Will certainly check out that SPA thread (might actually be one I’ve read through already)
Sounds pretty cool. So when you randomise does the generated pattern ‘stay still’ through repeated plays (until you explicitly ask the arpbud to create a new randomised pattern)? Or does it automatically spawn new randomisations with every new pass? Can it do both? Hopefully that makes sense.
It generates a new random value between the min-max bounds you set here everytime:
BTW if you want to arpeggiate chords, it works great with ChordBud! You can find some videos for ArpBud + ChordBud combo on youtube.
@cem_olcay I do like the look of that - simple and straightforward has a lot to be said for it, less disruption to creative flow. Thanks
Sweet! I didn't realize this about ArpBud!
Same here! Going back for another look...
Arpbud for sure.
There's also this odd thing:
A very playable insanely flexible arping contraption ... very good on music with a middle eastern indian flAvour ... also baroque ... no randomising that I recall but an absolute hoot - can be wildly chaotic.
How many of these parameters are exposed for external midi control? That could be a dealmaker!
Does anyone know if Ioniarics fits into this category? And how it compares to all the others mentioned here?
Ioniarics’ variations aren’t random, but they can be made to be very unpredictable. Endless melody from very simple input.
In general, chaining any combination of two or more sequencer/arpeggiators can be set up to give you endless variation with little effort. Complex apps with randomization features are not necessary.
Get MIDIgates. Put it behind basically any arp or sequencer. It’s got 4 very usable gate randomization modes that allow you to dial in variation from total chaos to more ‘sequential’ or periodic randomization.
Humans are very good pattern matchers or recognizers. So even if you have 4 bars of randomization if you have it set so that each step has a fixed level of randomization and let it run/repeat, the brain will struggle to find a pattern and as long as randomization is not too great, eventually the listener will grok a pattern/rhythm... which is usually what we want in music.
Anyway, MIDIgates is perfect for finding those thresholds in several different randomization contexts.
