Yes pitchbend works. Set the range to two semitones.

Thanks, that does work, but what a poor implementation. It renders Respiro practically useless for me as a solo instrument. Why implement pitch bend at all if it’s so limited? Strange design choice.

  • 2 semitones is what works best with wind contollers. It sounds the most natural. You use it to directly control the vibrato.
In aum there are some parameters exposed. I think there is a control for pitchbend range, but I did not test that yet.
Also when you choose mpe midi in in Respiro you get a pitchbend range slider.

But maybe the physical model only allows a natural range of bending the note.
A sax is not a trombone.

Thanks again. I’m not seeing MPE midi in in the Respiro settings? Is that only in the PC version?

It’s at the very bottom of the pressure CC list. It needs pitch bend range to be adjusted though to match an MPE controller (such as the Roli Block).

Thanks, that sounds promising. But when I choose that setting nothing happens. The pressure cc continues to say “AT”, and no pitch bend range control appears.

  • In the standalone version you have those settings. But seaboard mpe works differently then the normal breath control mode.
I think respiro only scales the enormous bend range of the seaboard so fingered vibrato works.
Anyway my ewi wich sends aftertouch instead of breath did not work right in mpe mode with at1 or at2. When I convert aftertouch to breath with mozaic it works as expected.

So in the plugin settings choose BC and send cc02 and PB to modulate.

Standalone won’t even scroll down correctly for me on that setting. In about fifteen tries, I saw the last entry once, but could not tap it. Nice synth, but what an incompetent UI.

Great sounds. I can’t even get the fucking cc setting to scroll.

  • It is not in the scrolldown menu. There is a second icon...
Dang I mixed it up with ID700.

Anyways if you own an ewi I can recomend getting respiro. It is inspired by the yamaha vl synthesizers. It is the pianoteq for wind instruments.

  • @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr , agreed the scrolling is a pain in the π×√~ You have to sort of keep your finger on it, drag down and pray. On GS it doesn't seem to make much difference anyway. Key is the midi preset you use to get note bending.

  • Hey...I'm the developer of the Respiro wind-synth.

    Just discovered this forum.

    Some clarifications

    • The Respiro iOS player is indeed a simple interface - the goal is to allow owners of he full version to load their instruments on their iPad/iPhone/iPod touch and play mobile without need for complex setup and computer.

    • I love the iOS platform and will consider new PM synths dedicated for iOS. But now I have other big priorities.

    • CC selector was indeed not working well in the initial version - please install latest version to have this working better. I will further investigate to have it more "touch friendly".

    • Respiro is a mono-synth but I included some clever midi processing to open up possibilities for MPE controllers.

    • When using an MPE controller then you must set the Breath mode to CE (continuous expression). This will set the Pressure CC automatically to AT and set behind the scene the bend range to -24 to +24. Best is to set also the Note Queue to ALL . But if you want a "kind of poly" setup then you should load multiple instances of the Respiro AUv3 and set each instance to listen to another Note Queue number. This way instance nr1 will always produce sound when detecting the first note in the queue, instance 2 will play the second note in the queue and so on.

    • All my testing for MPE is done with the linnStrument128

    • Best is to disable the Reverb when loading Respiro as AUv3 and to use a central reverb bus. Doing this will consume less CPU.

I'm always open to suggestions and constructive feedback. And audio tracks with Respiro are VERY motivating for me ...I love the track of GeoTony... MORE MORE ;-)

Anyone tried getting this to work with Geoshred or iFretless? Specifically MPE mode.

  • @TheOriginalPaulB , this worked for me in October 21 in Geoshred ... 'set to Control Mode = AT2 and the midi on GS set to Jordantron (this gives you the note bends):'... Not really tried it since 🤔

Thanks. I’ll give it another go.

  • First post! (I don't know what took me so long to start following this forum.)

Just wanted to chime in on this topic (full disclosure, I'm friends with the developer, and I wrote the manuals for both the desktop and iOS versions of Respiro).

I'm impressed with how clever the overall concept of this app is. Take a complex desktop instrument, create a "player" version on iOS that acts as an effective portable satellite, so you can use your favorite patches on a gig without having to take your computer. Also, to create a nice demo of Respiro with several fully functional instruments for people to try out and get a taste.

It is not a self-explanatory thing, so it does require users to understand how it works. I just noticed the iOS manual isn't displaying correctly on my iOS version. Will report to Rudy.

I too just realized how neat this is. It is not obvious to the casual observer.

I'm glad this app is available free for owners of Respiro VST (desktop).

Of course, having a full-featured AUv3 available on iOS for a fraction of the desktop price would be even better
