USB A Hub with IPAD Air 4
I have 4 usb A peripherals (drum pads, keyboard, mic, etc) that I plug into a powered usb A hub which plugs into my cck. Now that I have an Air 4, can I plug the powered usb A hub into the iPad using the usb C to female usb A dongle. I don’t think it will charge the iPad, but will the iPad recognize the keyboards and pads and such?

Should work fine.
You def won't be able to charge through regular USB. If you have the Apple USB/HDMI adapter, it has a charging port, similar to the old USB 3 Lightning adapter.
I picked up a powered USB C hub to cover off the charging, but effectively doing what you suggest with the other USB hub. It's a bit convoluted but it was the quickest way I could adapt what I already had whilst keeping my Air4 charged.
I did a video on it a while back as it was a question I had been trying to get an answer for prior to getting the Air 4: It's here if you want to see it
@swfarrington thank you sir, had been digging through YouTube for a while and this is the most thorough explanation of how to hook thinks up. I’ve read of iPads getting bricked by non Apple hubs (even Satechi which I think is made for Apple) you haven’t had any issues?
@uncledave Of course Apple would make it to where you need another $70 dongle that still doesn’t solve the missing headphone port issue.
I think I’ll have to go @swfarrington’s and find an anker hub that has a headphone jack as one of the ports. Again, make for a mess of stuff to sully up such a pretty piece of tech. With my luck, Apple will announce on the 20th that they’re going back to lightning and including a headphone jack on all new iPads! 🙃🤬🤡
Hey not a problem. So far I've had no issues. So far at least!
I use an audio interface which gets around the headphone jack problem.
Thanks @uncledave i decided to go the Apple AV Multiport adapter route you suggested. Made the most sense as it’s basically the same as my cck connection on my older iPad. I have a shure mobile Inter face with a 3.5 mm jack I can plug into my powered usb hub which will plug into the Apple adapter and I’m in business. Seems like an unnecessarily complicated set up, but it’s also the least complicated of all options so there’s that.
Can’t believe how expensive the multiport dongle is, but I found them used on eBay for $26
Agreed. I guess the Apple adapter combines the prior Lightning HDMI and Lightning USB adapters, somehow justifying a higher price for the combo.
Just a follow up on some things I’ve learned about this topic. You can get authentic Apple multiport adapters mentioned here on eBay for $25. Bunch of sellers have them, most are open box deals. The one I got was brand new, even the box was brand new, just opened. Secondly, as folks emerge from quarantine, they seems to be selling the stuff they bought for their new lockdown hobby. I bought a good as new focusrite interface for under half what it costs. I’ve found studio monitors, stands, you name it. In sum, my Air 4 is now fully connected, interface solving the headphone jack issue and with authentic Apple parts, thus eliminating the worry that my iPad will get bricked and won’t be covered by AppleCare+.
