ID700 obsession? One week, two tracks, five instances, Presets only: In A Lonely Place
Been a while since I was so inspired by a single app that I felt prompted to do two pieces in the same week, but @modosc ‘s ID700 sounds just so damn good. A dilemma, since putting out a new track tends to kill the listens on an older one, and my first ID700 experiment, The Dark Processional, is still racking up a gratifying number of daily listens and follows on SoundCloud, as of today, but, hey, waddyagonnado? This morning’s noodle session turned up something I felt I had to capture, so, er... here it is.
Just 5 instances of ID700, recorded straight from AUM into AudioShare, and only presets used. No other synths. Very simple. Reverbs courtesy of Alteza, Blackhole, Schroeder, and Stratosphere; Bark Filter and Maze Rider on mastering duties. Sequencing by Atom, and LoopBud from an Autony seed. Heavy use made of Atom’s probability feature.
As ever, my inner needy toddler will be gagging for your feedback, all comments appreciated. Enjoy!

Yuk! Came here for New Order/Joy Division title click-bait but all I got was ambient twaddle
That was a joke BTW, love this synth, love ambient music, promise to check it out later with headphones on to at least give it a fair play. (Stuck underneath car ATM pretending I'm changing the oil but actually taking the opportunity to have a lie down).
Nice! I like the persistent “thunk” sound. The ID700 is one very capable synth!
@Intrepolicious : “Persistent thunk sound” is now my brand identity
😂🙏
Lovely piece. Synth of the year so far for me.
@Philandering_Bastard : thank you! Yes - so far I’ve really only stuck to the presets, save for a bit of very minor envelope tweaking, but it does sound fantastic, and really seems to come alive with a touch of reverb. So versatile too. I’ve got a lot of other DX style FM synths and though they are cool and all, they only ever seem to inhabit that narrow 1980s done—to-death pop repertoire of basses and blocks and bells. I deliberately chose a bass and a bell here, on a kind of compare and contrast basis, just because they seem so much richer than the usual FM equivalents. And that sax lead sound is -amazing. I’m not a keyboard player so didn’t use any expression controls on it, but I imagine a proper keys person could really make it sing.
I hope someone like @Spidericemidas takes a look at it - I’d love a really good sound designer to do a preset pack or three for it.
