I like to make my own presets because it's actually pretty hard to find the right kind of dusty lo-fi sounds that I like in the presets that come with most synths, and not many sound designers share my aesthetic either ( @Spidericemidas being the obvious exception).
On the flipside making your own presets can take a lot of time, so it's something I do relatively rarely. I prefer writing songs

I reluctantly chose Tweaker but it almost always starts with a preset.
Yea I started as a preset player but the more I learned about synths, etc.. the more I tweaked. So both. Depends.

Correct choice. If you tweak you're a tweaker. All the "both" voters are. Simple as that. Doesn't matter where you start or that you don't do it every single time

In the case of presets, I'm preset knob tweaker. Or preset player. It depends on the kind of app. On the Colossus Piano, I'm player. On teh SynthMaster Player I'm both. Up to the patch. On the Model D, or the OB-Xd I'm tweaker. No way to give one answer.
It's kind of funny (and sad) how I seem to end up making the same three or four similar types of sounds in every app.

I tend to make "value judgements" about synths based on the presets available ... rarely feel inclined to dive into something I'm not initially attracted to.... but sit me down with a batch of Spidermidas' inspired sounds and I'll start tweaking and adding and fiddling away, exploring for hours.
Sensitive, well-crafted presets can demonstrate the versatility and musical potential of many instruments that even the developers don't anticipate. Others can unnecessarily type-cast and limit a synths appeal and versatility.

I enjoy making presets to the point that I generally don’t even make much music. I just enjoy seeing what kind of sounds I can get out of things .
