Moog Model 15 Jam

This is a music jam that I performed on a 12.9-inch iPad using the Moog Model 15 app. The app was set to the Ionian scale with F as the root note. It was recorded back in May 2016.

There are lots of missed notes, as well as key presses that didn't register. Still, it has a few good moments.

More recently, I added some image stabilization to the video. Otherwise, it was difficult to watch. The camera was mounted securely on a tripod, but I was moving too much. I was playing the iPad while it was resting on my knees.

  • That was as fun to watch as it was to listen. Great reminder to remember a soloist can
sync up with a delay and get more of a "we" feeling goin' for live work.

  • We should have a thread for tracks made only with apps from 2015 or earlier.

Good idea. And how about a thread of tracks using apps you can no longer purchase... Mwah-ah-ah, my pretty, pretty.

I tried to re-install AltiSpace and the store doesn't have it. Not cool. Probably
    an IOS version issue.

  • What the holy ****. Who can play a screen like that. I recorded one simple synth bassline in the beginning of the iPad days. Then my fingers hurt and I got a MIDI keyboard the next day.

    Nice.

I think you've put your finger on the problem -- so to speak. Even with the other restrictions (size of the onscreen keys, lack of haptic response, and inability of the apps to keep up when you play fast), my fingers would hurt after just a few minutes of pounding on the screen. Like you, I did end up gravitating to MIDI keyboards, though I did hope at the time that there might be some viable onscreen solution.
