Klevgrand Krets
Does anyone use this?
KRETS is a modular environment that can be used in any DAW compatible with the AudioUnit or VST format.
The application is based on a set of modules that can be connected in different ways, where focus is on low level audio DSP processing. There are (almost) no ready-made effects to hook into an audio stream, the purpose is for the user to create these more or less from scratch.
By combining mathematical expressions and functions (available as modules) a plethora of audio effects can be created, anything from a compression algorithm to generative soundscapes.
According to the developer, Krets was originally developed to be used internally for prototyping new plugins and testing DSP ideas. But now they decided to transform it into an official software product.
In order to use Krets, you'll need a Klevgrand account. It is very free and lightweight. You’ll also need a Internet connected computer to authorize your copy of KRETS.

What is low level audio DSP processing?
My thought is low level audio DSP processing is when you are working with basic building blocks. “...where focus is on low level audio DSP processing. There are (almost) no ready-made effects to hook into an audio stream, the purpose is for the user to create these more or less from scratch.”
Good question though because I was wondering the same. 😆 @sugarbytes
These things just seem like a waste of time. I guess you could argue everything is a waste of time, but these moreso.
Did you watch the video?
Low-level in this context. means elementary. So, providing the most elementary building blocks that programmers need for writing effects and synths.
It looks like it is along the lines of the low-level routines in Max/Msp or PD or Audulus for signal altering/creation. In the video, I could see some filters listed, too...so not everything is super low-level.
The link in the original post has a listing of the routines and some example programs that should give you a sense of what it is about.
It's still in development. Asked them about it a few days ago. Been more than a year since it was teased though, so I'm hoping we could see a release by the end of 2021 at least.
Looks really interesting!! I’ve just seen on Klevgrand’s website that there is a Free MacOS plugin called FreeAMP, like REAMP little brother. I wonder why they haven’t released it on iOS.
It means it’s geared towards actual engineers / programmers. Certainly not me.
Right the opposite - it adresses folks like you... in case they want to get some hands on experience with digital audio processing.
This is an educational toolkit, not a production environment.
I still have Reaktor PTSD...
That should keep you covered.
Around Y2K Reaktor caught my attention regarding PC synthesis, but I decided for a Creamware Scope system instead (PCI card + DSP software).
In Scope (functionally identical to Reaktor) these basic building blocks reside in a folder named dsp, 856 of them in version 4, 1125 in version 5.
😂
This could be a great tool for budding developers given Klevgrand used this to prototype plugins.
Yeah, I have been messing with Reaktor since when it was still called Generator. I love it but it also reminds me that I’m just not that bright.
I find that hard to believe! Something keeps drawing you into this type of environment. Have you tried to make stuff and get stuck?
Think of me as an overgrown toddler with patch cables instead of crayons.
😆 Nice! I love it. I think I’m the same... oooh what happens when I plug this thing in here??? Waaaaaaahtinnnnnng my poor ears. I have only a small clue of what I’m doing, but I’ve been learning more from here:

Check it out!
What a great resource, I enrolled instantly.
That looks great! I keep coming back to the Synth Secrets course that ran in SOS and the Allen Strange book.
Awesome!
I love SOS! I’m checking the Allen Strange book now, thank you 🙏🏻
I find Drambo much more accessible for prototyping things but it's admittedly not this low level.
Does anyone still know the iOS app AnalogKit?
It has a math module that would allow you doing this kind of stuff (I've seen one guy implementing an FFT inside it), and I believe to remember that Audulus has some of it too. Oh, and MobMuPlat. Wish it was an AUv3.
Very interesting, thank you: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mobmuplat/id597679399

Thanks for adding the links 👍🏼
Just started typing this on the pc keyboard, looked up halfway through...
Anyway! I'm as thick as the next village idiot so what I do is keep the Becoming a Synthesiser Wizard book next to me and reference the index whenever I get lost, which is usally around 3 breaths from clicking on an app.
This is probably going to sound crazy but I was hoping to spark some kind of discussion.
Mission accomplished! 😂
