30 FREE Presets for Virsyn’s Poseidon Synth by Spidericemidas
Right. I have no idea how this is going to go, but I have 30 presets to share for Poseidon Synth.
I’d had Poseidon since it first dropped, but never got to tinkering with it until recently, so I’m still getting to know my way around it really.
Import/export is going to be a real ball ache with this one. The Synth only seems to provide export of one preset at a time via email!! However, in the forum thread below, @Tim6502 suggested a sharing method which I was totally unaware of. So a shoutout of big thanks to @Tim6502 for helping with this.
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/44525/preset-sharing-in-virsyn-s-poseidon-solved#latest
So, I’ve followed the zipping up part. But I honestly don’t know how you then get them into Poseidon. I imagine you go to the zip folder in the files app and long press to unzip. Then load Poseidon into AUM and drop down the AUM presets menu to access them. You might then be able to save the presets again one by one back into Poseidon itself from the AUM save selection options so that the presets can be played when Poseidon is also in standalone mode.
If anyone is having trouble unzipping, installing or reaching these presets, hopefully @Tim6502 would be kind enough to drop in again and explain further, as this method is very unfamiliar territory for me with files app shenanigans and I’m not sure of the steps you need to take for the import part!
One thing I found with Poseidon which is a bit odd. The course tuning setting does not seem to be saved as part of the preset. It seems to be a global thing. This is annoying because the tuning of the waveforms provided with Poseidon seems to vary from waveform to waveform by one or two semitones. @LinearLineman had recently mentioned this to me in another thread, and it is true, I corrected the tuning on one preset and noticed that many others were then wrong because the course tuning is global and not part of the preset data. So unfortunately if you want to use some of these presets in some music, you’ll have to either tune Poseidon to the music or the music to Poseidon.
Some Plucks, Pads and some atonal stuff for atmos maybe....

Insane. Thanks. I love Poseidon.
I hope the import method works smoothly for you.
If it works out ok with this method, I might do another bank for Poseidon as I realised there’s a lot more can be done with it, and I got to liking programming it a lot. This time was getting to know it’s basics. There’s also a number of interesting modulation options which I didn’t look into this time and it looks as though you can import your own waves into it, I think(?). If so, I would assume any imported waves would be saved and carried over as part of the preset data file when exporting/importing...will have to check that. 😁
@Spidericemidas When I shared my 107 AddStation presets it was a similar problems with import/export. They are now fixed and it works very well. Anyway, to make a long story short: @McD suggested I should contact Harry at Virsyn to see if he could add the presets with next update. Which I did and he gladly accepted (they are now under the user tab in AddStation). So, why don't you try that as well, was my thought. Thanks for sharing anyway.
Good to hear it was fixed for AddStation. I was considering getting AddStation and giving it a try. So if I purchase now, your presets will be included. Nice one. Would be good to check them out. Yeah, I may add more to Poseidon and then refine all the presets further and then submit the whole lot to Virsyn for possible inclusion as an update. Thanks for the suggestion 😊🙏
AddStation is awesome, like it very much. That and FRMS are my real favorites when it comes to sound design, Both very CPU heavy (well AddStation can be lite, if you only use one block). Here's a video I did to present them. It's pretty long but you can jump around a bit just to get en idea, if you want. I have a few more AddStation projects on video.
Thank you so much @Spidericemidas!!
For those who want to check out these wonderful presets right away:
Now open AUM and create an audio track with Poseidon.
The presets are available as AUM USER presets in the AUM-Poseidon hamburger menu (forth icon from left on the menu bar).
(Unfortunately I did not see a way in AUM of saving presets now into Poseidon for further use in other DAWs or via IAA.)
That’s awesome, thanks so much for dropping in with those extra much-needed details! 😃🙏
Ugh. You’re right. It doesn’t look possible to save the presets from the AUM menu back into Poseidon itself. That’s a bother and limits their usage to AUM sessions only. Although....thinking about it....I guess you could still use and record the presets in a DAW like Cubasis after all, where you can connect the AUM track output directly to an audio track in Cubasis, right? Should work. I’ll try it....
That worked flawlessly, thank you @Spidericemidas. Echoing @Tim6502 there doesn’t seem to be any way to save changes to a preset in the AU. I’ll write Harry.
Congrats! You’ve just sold AddStation to me with that vid. Nice work!
What iPad are you using with AddStation?
Hopefully my old pro from 2016 could handle it!
Cheers!
Glad to hear that, you will not regret it. I'm on an Air 3 with the A12 processor so shouldn't be to much of a differens. I've used four copies in stand alone Drambo and that was though but the patches I used where heavy using almost all blocks. Sometimes I do freeze one in a project so I can use multi copies but that's rare.
There's a CPU/DSP indicator in AddStation on the top bar that is very helpful. Good luck.
The names of these are as good as the sounds, nice one @Spidericemidas - they would have worked great in a show I did with friends in 2006...
My day job is Microbiologist for the food, water and environment sectors. So I thought, why not give this one a biology theme? Always difficult to think of names! I’d like to explore Poseidon more after doing this little trial bank.
Love the video. Did I spot Sea Monkeys in there? They’re great! I hatched a load a few years ago and I’m pretty sure they were multiplying for a while.
Glad to hear it worked! Never tried this method before. Files app stuff confuses me. Pity about not being able to get them back from AUM into Poseidon itself, but, I think they could still be used and recorded in a DAW like Cubasis where you can route the AUM track output directly into an audio track in Cubasis. So they might not be limited to just AUM sessions after all.
I agree the preset saving/sharing facility needs some love and attention!
Yeah we had loads of different creatures, mostly microbes, but some insects as well, crickets and that sort of thing with contact mics on their cages, fully generative show, slightly pretentious history of the universe, from fluids to animals and higher consciousness, not bad for a Friday in the west of London 😁
Oooh Spider you simply MUST get Addstation ... really an amazing piece of kit - can be wild and chaotic but also with an incredible level of fine control and precision ... you'll be trapped in there for months... musical sounds tumble out of the thing... so bring yer lunch at least. Sounds particularly splendiferous on an M1. One of the most interesting synths I've encountered.
and @Pxlhg
Just pulled the trigger on AddStation 😆 Looking forward to tinkering in there!
Pixelhog's Bell Pad patch is worth the price of admission alone ... bells that slide around ... just delicious! Let us all know how you find it.
Funny, just what I'm doing right now. I have 2 * 57 new presets and I'm not sure how I wanna release them yet. Gonna make videos and whatnot first. Put a lot of work into these and I've learnt a lot more since the release of those first 107. Anyway, good luck and if you have any questions, just fire away.
Makes me so glad to hear that
Got a few spare minutes at work. I just found the Bell Pad! 🔥🔥 Excellent stuff. The low end is insanely deep as well.
I feel like I should do some more with Poseidon after warming up to it, but I’m itching to get into AddStation now.
@Pxlhg “Cocky Mu.Fkr 2” 🤯👍 Whoa! I wasn’t expecting to find savage Dubstep material in an additive synth! That’s amazing! The low end of this synth is really weighty!
Cool! Yeah, I think it's incredibly versatile. Have done a few that sound like Pipa and others that I use as Drum machines.
Thanks @Spidericemidas and @Pxlhg for the great presets
Oh, thanks to you as well but I might already have said that when I got some presets of yours
I installed these presets and lost 5 lbs overnight! Thanks, @Spidericemidas.
Can you make some presets for an artist thinking of making an album about
"Insect Sex"? Asking for a friend.
Haha. Asking for Mike, yes? I saw that comment about the insect sex album on the other thread. Well it would make an interesting change and a challenge to the imagination. Finding suitably themed patch names would be fun too! Cricket Copulation. That kind of thing. 🤣
These 30 presets were just me warming up to Poseidon for the first time. The long-winded and limited sharing facility kind of deterred me from making a bigger bank as the presets have to be individually saved and renamed as AUM presets to get them into a zip for sharing. I want to do some more in Poseidon but then I was finally persuaded to pull the trigger on AddStation.....mmm....
Yes.
Haven't had a chance to try these yet, but I have been very appreciative of the ones you crafted for Mersenne. I've been trying to get a handle on Poseidon for a while now and one thing that's puzzled me is how there seems to be controls for an envelope generator but it does not do anything that changes the sound, try as I might. I must be misunderstanding something. Maybe the envelopes are made by the imported wave forms. Anyhow, I look forward to trying these out.
Yeah, honestly I’m not 100% sure on what everything does in Poseidon. I still need to dig more into it. But I figured it depended on the wave, the blur settings, and also how you set the wave to play, like one shot, loop etc. I used the init patch first and loaded in things like the drum and percussive samples which have hard attack and varying degrees of length to experiment with those parameters I just mentioned, to get an idea of behaviour. You have control of where the starting position is on the wave too. So you can just take the tail of a percussive sample and have it loop, try some blur, and blur speed, and you might end up with a pad or something. It was a bit trial and error for me with this first venture into Poseidon properly. There are two envelopes EG1 and EG2 which can be assigned to filter, volume and other things, I seem to remember. But I think the effect of the volume envelope does depend on the type/length of sample and how it’s being played back. Maybe do some reverse engineering on some of these presets. That always helps me when I’m getting to know a synth. 👍
