The main difference between an M1 and an A series SOC

  • Indeed, seen a few people here wondering if future ipads would have an A or and M series cpu. Cpu names are set by the marking department and bear an at best approximate relation to actual performance.

    Yeah exactly. When the opposite is actually the case. Macs got A class chips with a few extra systems in the chip.

    The marketing is working. No matter how powerful the iPad chip is, there are slight negative connotations for a desktop computer running chips made for a phone or tablet.

    However you spin things though, Apple silicon is seriously impressive whether it’s in an iPad optimised for efficiency or a desktop Mac optimised for performance.
