Exploring Midi options inside Holon.ist and Jammpro?
Before I begin, I love both these apps. Jammpro has seen me creating otherwise unplayed ideas made reality. Holon.ist has opened a Pandora’s box of a new world of connectivity, making human gestures in to playable sounds. I have spoken with the developer of holon.ist and I am exited to say that I will be working with him on a musical performance, online admitly, but facinating none the less.
Here is my problem however, holon.ist works really well with Mirack and I have begun to start writting patches specifically for the app but I would really like to make a marriage of holon.ist with Jammpro since the both have an experimental approach to music. The trouble is I struggle to get the 2 apps to talk to each other. I like apps that expose their parameters in AUM that way you can see dirrectly how things connect. Jammpro does not expose its parameters directly but allows for midi learn. when holon.ist is routed to AUM you can see its signal in the AUM midi port but Jammpro only can see holon.ist and the Network midi. I have tried using Midifire which has provided a solution in the past but not in this case. Any help would be most apreciated. Thank you in advance.

You will need to use a middleman to sit between AUM and JammPro because AUM doesn’t expose its MIDI out (hence Jamm Pro doesn’t show AUM as an input) and JammPro doesn’t expose its MIDI in (so AUM doesn’t show Jamm Pro in the routing matrix).
The solution is to use MIDIFire or Audiobus 3 in between them. You can route MIDI from AUM to either of those and Jamm Pro sees MIDIFire’s and AB3’s MIDI ports, so you can choose them as the MIDI input.
Thanks for your solution unfortunately not working for me. Jammpro in AB remains in sleep mode. When I click on it then it sorks leaving and its asleep again.
Tried setting up AB but then using AUM to receive MIdi wired up in Midifire still no luck. I bought Musikraken thinking there might be a solution there but only caused myself more headache. I will post asking for help with Musikraken. Thanks again.
You don’t need to load Jamm Pro into Audiobus.
Open Audiobus and on the MIDI page route the virtual in to the virtual out.
In AUM, route the MIDI you want to send to Jamm Pro to the Audiobus virtual in port in the matrix. In the Jamm Pro app, choose Audiobus as a midi source.
Also, stick a midi monitor in your stream somewhere to make sure the midi being sent is what you think.
Here are screenshots showing the setup in the various apps. I have tested to confirm that it works. You should be able to do the same thing with MIDIFire, too.
The setup in Audiobus on the MIDI page. Route virtual midi in to virtual midi out. All that AB is doing is providing a port for you to select from in Jamm Pro
AUM: route whatever MIDI you want to send to Jamm Pro to Audiobus’ virtual MIDI port
JAMM PRO: choose Audiobus as the MIDI source
Finally WOW! You are a God Send! Thank you so much. Bought Musikraken thought that might be a solution but provided a new rabbit Hole. I have also bought a Movesense to work with holon.ist I will keep you posted when it it arrives. Thank you so much!
Note: Audiobus will go to sleep after some time and will stop passing the MIDI unless you have something in an audio output slot. It can be just the system speaker output, and you don't need any input.
@michael: is this the case that AB will go to sleep if it is doing nothing but midi routing?
No it should remain active as long as there’s anything in either an audio or a midi slot.
Um. You posted that it needs this in response to someone saying that it stopped passing MIDI after awhile.
We're talking about midi routing with nothing loaded in Audiobus here. Is that the point of confusion, or did I completely misunderstand your earlier post?
It was something to the effect that there needs to be at least one output or plugin loaded, even if it's just the default system output to keep Audiobus running in the background.
Let me see if I can find it. [edit ... ugh, no luck so far, but I know I didn't imagine it.]
I believe the other post was discussing MIDI clock, which is a different thing.
Ahhh... thanks. That makes sense.
I love this forum! If I could give you all a hug I would, personal barriers respected, so I will send a virtual hug.
Update - Jammpro and Holon.ist now are now happily married together. Hopefully my Movesense sensor will arrive soon and then things can really happen. It is very difficult to swing the ipad around in the air when you unfortunately have arthuritus, heyho, but a tiny sensor, the size of a chocolate coin and weighing about the same, will dramatically improve my chances of producing something worthwhile. To think my musical journey began on a ZX Spectrum! I wish I could have shown the younger version of me the older version of me, to show him what would become possible.
For anyone wishing to connect to previously unconnectable midi gear please bookmark this thread because the solution provided by @espiegel123 might just be the solution for you.
THANK YOU!
