I’ve got both. G is the original one right? There is so much to tweak with Jammy and you can get very close to fingerpicking a guitar if you spend some time working on it. Their customer service is extremely responsive and they helped me tweak to great settings. You can send them midi files and then they will analyze to get an idea of what settings needs to change. With a good acoustic guitar and some precise picking you can really get a good sound (and it feels realistic too). Slides, hammer-ons and pull offs are harder to do on I1. I usually use I1 in a different way, for SWAM etc, though Jammy has started to incorporate some MPE as well (by sliding your fingers on the picking hand up and down the strings). It really depends on what you are hoping to use it for. Let me know if you have more questions.
In general I reach for the I1, but I am using it for MPE for orchestral voicings (well, trying). The Jammy would be good for quiet practice and travel.
Thanks for generously sharing your observations. Yes, the jammy G is the one that has been out for a while. As I understand it, the E has been delayed due to supply chain challenges. I generally use finger picking techniques (pulls and hammers) so perhaps the Jammy would be better. That said, I’ve adapted my playing for MIDI guitar 2 and believe I could adapt to I2 as well. I’m attracted to the I2 because it seems less fussy than the Jammy. More plug and play. Seem right?
Yes definitely more plug and play. It’s what I reach for. Easy to kind of have a physical GeoShred type instrument in your hands.
Appreciate the feedback!
Orba 2 just launched, adding sample player and quantisation with the price jacked to $150, which may move it out of the sweet spot for casual goofing around but is attractive for a standalone hardware gestural MPE sample player. Feature comparison here.
Smart to do sample import- though I would have thought they could do this with a software update (maybe they can and want to sell new units).
I do question the longevity if the future is Orba…
Orba 2 hardware and price hike may be justified by the extra memory needed to store the samples.
It looks like instrument one is discontinued. Does Chorda do everything instrument one did? Including the various modes or methods like the grid mode?
Thx
No, not even close. Completely different instrument and market segment. Chorda is a consumer gadget.
Thx. The sweetwater reviews for Chorda are pretty poor.
I haven’t tried it but I have the I1 and the Orba. I pick up the former frequently as it feels like a musical instrument but not so much the latter.
OK. I went to Artiphon's website and said "Notify Me" when the Instrument 1 is available again. Hopefully that's still possible. Otherwise, I'll keep an eye out on used sites.
I'm selling a One. UK based.
I’m selling an Instrument 1 and original Orba w/case. East coast US based.
So I got an Instrument 1 coming to me used.
It won't have the power supply. What should I get? I have a 1 Spot power supply for guitar pedals. And other power supplies in my gear stash.
My hope is to use the Instrument 1 on the go with either my iPad or OP-1. Or to use it in my studio with laptop or MPC, or synth gear.
@joegrant413 Here’s some pictures of my original artiphon instrument 1 power supply.
It’s a 2.1mm tip, centre positive, 12v, 1500ma.
Thanks!
Can I get by to start without it and charge via USB?
Just tried - no joy (into the USB port).
The number on the power supply 'GPE018A' comes up as recognisable on a google search, so you should be able to source one ok.
Thx!
I'm going to order this supply

It's alive! Haven't played it much. Glad it worked on the Mac with Reaper OK. Can I just treat the I1 like any MIDI controller? If so, I want to hook it up via USB hub to hardware synths.
Thx, Joe
P.S. Haven't tried it on iOS yet, need to get another USB / lightning adaptor.
Did you find the Mac editor software?
https://artiphon.com/pages/downloads
In there you can change it from multi-channel to single channel as your synth may prefer.
I've now re-commissioned mine thanks to your prompting, I'm a SWAM trumpet legend in my own headphones![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
It will work on iOS without USB/Lightning adaptor, but you need to find the right mini usb to lightning cable and they're very hard to find. IK Multimedia used to sell one and the Fender Slide audio interface (which you can sometimes pick up cheap) also came with one.
thanks! Yes, I have the Mac software editor. I’ll keep an eye out for the channel configuration
Regarding power supply, how concerned should I be about the amps? I was arguing with ChatGPT about it![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
I went ahead last night and used a 1300ma universal power supply to charge up, and it worked OK. And I have a 1000ma and 2A I could use as well.
For all of the above, the barrels and voltage and polarity match requirements.
Should be fine, just a slightly slower charge. It’s the polarity that kills you![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
There's a joke in there somewhere about marriage relationships. I'll let you know if I find it.
Thanks again!
The original part was 1500miliAmps (1.5Amp) so you can match that safely with anything equal or greater in is current capability. So, the 2A is your best bet.
The 1.3A (1300ma) will likely do the job but could potentially run hot and potentially burn out.
These “equal” or better specs also apply in to WATT calculations. All the new USB-C chargers and HUBs
have Watt ratings from 18W to 40W to 100W up to 130W. All this means is how much current it can source without burning out. WATTs are Current x Voltage and the voltage is typically fixed value for a given connector type.
The original power supply was 1.5A at 12V = 18Watts. Your under powered supplies are under 18Watts possible.
Do most devices draw up to the possible power supply? probably NOT so that 1300ma will probably be fine. If it gets hot you’ll feel it before it burns out.
Much better advice than mine 👍
