Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 3rd Gen - or alternatives
I am looking for an audio interface for my new ipad 2020 (not a pro!).
I tend to prefer the Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 3rd Gen., as it has 6 line inputs, as opposed to the alternatives mentioned below. I definitely need 2 headphone outputs!
I usually work with AUM.
Does anyone have experience with this interface under ios14?
Or are Tascam US-4x4HR or Steinberg UR44C better alternatives ???

I use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 with an iPad Pro and have never had any issues connecting.
No problem also here.
I have the 2nd generation and it works well. I’ve recently been looking at the Motu Ultralite mk5 because of its I/O:

Behold all those OUTS🤯

2nd gen 18i8 as well and it works great. You’ll need a PC/Mac to set up the channels and routing initially. After setup the unit remembers the settings. @echoopera I’ve been looking at that too! I just can’t justify spending the cash when my Focusrite and Soundcraft are still working great for me.
Thanks for the answers. if I understand correctly, should all 3rd generation scarletts also work with the "normal" iPad (via camera connection kit) and not just with the iPad Pro ?!
Question for people that have these Focusrite Scarlett interfaces:
Can they power/charge the iPad while connected?
I’d very much doubt it - for lightning use the USB3 CCK so power can be provided through that. For USB-C I think a hub with power delivery ought to work (don’t have this)
Balls. I was hoping to cut out the whole dongle chain that’s usually needed. 😫
When I was initially researching iOS audio interface I noticed there were various historically which had dedicated iOS ports and would provide power - but it seems they were all flaky and Apple has more or less abandoned MFi...
Yep, my 8i6 3rd gen works without any problem with my "normal" iPad (not pro) 8th gen (2020) through the camera kit plug.
No they won't send power to the ipad. Their power supply is for the card itself.
But you can use an Apple camera kit with power supply (it has a lightning connector besides the USB-A connexion) if you need it.
thanks! that's what I wanted to hear
You're welcome. I knew you were waiting for this answer 😁👍
