Nice. I'm in Portland. There's no time/date that I saw but I'm in. Maybe we can get @dwarman to drive down.
Trying to decide if I should find a real meeting place for the first meetup or just schedule for a quiet pub or the like. Might only be 2-4 people the first time.
I'd go if I was in PDX. You should do it at OMSI
+1 quiet pub/big tables. Too bad backspace is gone. Lucky lab?
Post here if you guys set up a date please, I might be down there off and on over the next few months and couple possibly stop by
Hey guys, I'm in town for biz. Could meet tomorrow late afternoon or eve. Short notice, but no pressure. Be back next week and might have some free time Monday eve.
We could try for a first meeting next Monday, May 12th!? Lucky Lab is always a great option. I'm at work till 6 so 6:30 is the earliest I can do but that does not need to stop people from meeting at 6. If MoonWolf is at least a likely, and at least 2 others are as well I'll go ahead and schedule that night. I would rather get something scheduled in the next two weeks to just get things going.
Ahhh, my hometown but now I'm too far away
Yeah, I could come up with an excuse to escape between 7-8, worst case. Would be great to meet you guys even for a drink and tell iOS war stories.
If the Lucky Lab is not convenient to where your working MoonWolf we can look at other options.
The one in the Pearl? I'm staying on NW 9th, so that might be perfect.
I was thinking the one in SE but I'm in either way.

Woohoo, gonna be fun!
woot. I'm in.
So we are at 4 bodies for the moment. One is a musician who does not own an IOS device but is very curious.
I made a sad discovery last night. I did a more complete count of how many ISO music apps I have and even tried to ignore some really simple ones. The count still was over 140. On the good side, the majority of them were either free or purchased on sale. I have been an IOS music app sale junkie for a few months now. I even got Auria on sale and I'm still waiting to get Cubasis. I just need to make sure and resist any temptation to add up the cost of these apps! ;-)
On another note, while my serious start into music recording and production was with an Atari Falcon and Cubase 3.0 back in 1993, my main work was done using a Roland VS-1680 physical DAW, which I still have and still contains many of my projects. The VS-1680 also represents a fairly ideal workflow and tool-set in many ways that I'm looking to see in my IOS DAW. In a future meeting I would like to bring in my VS-1680, give a quick tour and discus some of the features I found so useful to see what thoughts others have. If anyone else has a physical or software DAW that they would also like to show off and discuss this might produce a few requests to send into Auria and/or Cubasis, or at least start a dialog in the forums to see what others think. I'm sure my situation is far from unique.
I have similarly fond memories of a boss br-8 which wasn't nearly as nice as the 1680. Things were just simple and song focused on it. There was some basic copy/paste and looping but other than that you had to record what you wanted to hear. Kept my noodling and fix-it-later mentality to a minimum and I actually finished more songs.
I look at the Zoom R24 every once in a while but never pull the trigger.
You hit on a key advantage, or for some, disadvantage to the 1680. Each normal track had 16 virtual tracks, this made the process of recording multiple takes of a single track/instrument within a song/project very easy both technically and from a long term production standpoint. This is one of the features I was hooked on and used heavily in recording an album for an 6 member acoustic band I was in many years ago. On some tracks there were as many as 10+ takes. My challenge is figuring out the best way to transfer this project, which was never finished, to my iPad for final mixing and mastering. The obvious from a mixing standpoint is to finish the picking of the best takes and complete that portion of the mixing so that I can at least flatten each track. I might try to preserve at least a couple takes of some tracks by generating another track to facilitate the transfer.
I'd go for VS1680->Reaper->iPad. Not sure if Reaper will see each take as a take track but it least it has the ability to use them even if you have to manually put them in place. Though I imagine all DAWs have some version of easy take comping by this point someone has probably written a VS1680->Reaper script already cause that's how they roll in Reaper land.
I live in Tri-cities, WA. Can't make it down there but feel free to keep in touch here. Would like to hear what you all discuss.
Bump. Probably going to be a little late. I'll look for the nerds with iPads. I don't have anything special to bring but I'll bring my Blue Digital Mikey and a Peavey Ampkit Link in case anyone wants to check them out.
Gonna b fun, boys! I have some toys to show n tell.
Looking forward to it! Even have a friend planning on showing up, musician, only has Android devices for now. He is in for a surprise. I really don't think people not in the know have a clue what is going on in the IOS music world these days.
I'll be there by 6:30 or earlier if I can with pad, phone, 2 X cans, and a Novation Launchkey 25.
Definitely think a headphone amp with at least 4 outs and a small 4-8 channel mixer would make a huge difference in the future.
I need to see if I can dig my 1202 out of storage, have not even seen it in many years. I do have my 1604 VLZ, mounted in a travel case even, but not the most portable.
I wonder if a place like http://controlvoltage.net/ or Trade Up would be up for hosting in the future. Backspace would have been all about it.
Ground Kontrol?
That is definitely one thing I wanted to put on the table for discussion, sponsorship. From the simple aid of providing space, to providing financial support or product loans/demos. All kinds of possibilities. I definitely wanted to get input from a core of participants before going down this road too far as I want to keep this as open and all inclusive as possible.
It would definitely be nice to have space where we could make all the noise we wanted as well as full on presentations/demos.
It might also make sense to have either two kinds of sessions, or just have multiple sections within a session. One for presentations/demos, the other for networking, collaboration, workshoping etc.
The really sad part is that I have never been to Control Voltage!
Excuse me, Not in your area, but think what you all are doing is really cool.
We will report back on how things go.
A good time! Great to meet you fellas. Big preesh @fifer for making it happen.
