Chow Tape Model Detailed Walkthrough Reel to Reel Tape Emulation - Likely the Best FREE App of 2021
CHOWTapeModel Detailed Walkthrough (Reel to Reel Tape Emulation) - Likely the Best FREE App of 2021
This is a fantastic app. Best of all, it is free. Premiere starts in 15 mins! See some of you there.
Despite the fact that Chow Tape Model is a free app, it is likely to be one of the best app releases for iOS of 2021, and was also one of the best free desktop plugin releases of 2020. Whether you like lofi stuff, are going for that Boards of Canada wow and flutter sound, or just want to add a bit of subtle analogue warmth, this is an absolutely must-have. If it were a $10+ app I will still recommend it without hesitation. I have RTFM so that you don’t have to, and this video is just as valid for the desktop plugin versions as for the iOS app. I walk you through all the important features of the manual (I overlooked the Flutter sync, but it is pretty self-explanatory), and discuss some aspects of tape machine emulation. Make sure you stick around for the last section of the video, which has 4 pretty lofi musical examples I made using this app as part of my FX chains.
This video has detailed timestamps when viewed in YouTube.
As always folks, if you find this useful, consider taking a second to grace it with your thumbs-up.

Thanks for the demo! (but how many giveaway codes available?
Lol, yeah, notice that the comments section is a ghost town for once 😉, and there was me thinking people left comments cos they loved my work 🤔
Everyone is a winner this time. Will you email them all separately... hahah joke joke, never laughed so hard
The ChowTape is really outstanding! But the Flux app by Caelum was also really cool a free app this year!
We are flipping spoiled with great stuff, even free.
Lol, Dave. And don’t forget multiband too @AliAhmet 😉
this is free app, you just need to download it from appstore 👍🏼
While he’s at it I suggest you download the free “Understanding & Recognizing Humor in an Internet Environment” app

What if this comment was a brilliant Naked Gun parody though?
Exactly, Oat, maybe you're the one that didn't get it 👻
I would love it to death. However, after using the totally free app I espoused earlier, I determined this was not the case.
It’s 3:30 am and now I have to watch a Leslie Nielsen movie. Nothing I like more than absurd comedy
🎖️ Enjoy!
😂
Give away AUM so that the free AuV3s can be usable.
Give away can-openers with free canned beans that don’t have pull-tabs.
Damn, AUM giveaway, I missed a trick there 😉
"Likely the Best FREE App of 2021"
I mean, technically you could have called this contest earlier - but it still has that warm and fuzzy tabloid headline feeling about it
I know what you're saying, but I do genuinely think it is unlikely that a better free app will come out this year, don't you? Most free apps are quite simple and quick to make, there is a lot of research, a lot of knowledge and a lot of work behind this app.
But @Gavinski, Jatin still has a number of other apps to release:

The Chow Centaur, imo, should also be on the list of best-sounding plugins (paid or not) of the year. It makes even paid amp sims sound better.
+1
Yes Ed, I finally downloaded that today and it also sounds great
Good point!
His Chow Matrix works well in Logic. VERY cool! And also free
That would be fun to see those modules come to mirack
Oh boy.
Yeah. It’d be awesome on iOS. I played with it for an hour today in Logic. Super fun.
And, I agree that this tape emulator is the bombdiggity. My new favorite of its kind.
I found out I needed to reset my iPad to get it to show up as an AU. Just thought I’d mention it in case anyone is having similar problems.
Fyi, this can happen with any newly downloaded AU and isn't related to the particular AU. It is s random
OS glitch.
Yes. This is normal now.
I think unfortunately that Jatin said elsewhere on the forum that there would likely be some obstacles to porting Matrix, but that he would maybe try.
