Beatmaker 3 with Beathawk as AUV3

Hoping for some help with a couple questions. If I’m using BH as an Auv3 plugin in BM3 and I load a loop in Beathawk (BH loop has key and bpm info) does it automatically stretch to BM3 project tempo? Also does the pad you play in keys mode determine the key the BH loop plays in BM3? Like when I load a G#m 120 bpm Loop in Beathawk, will the loop play in BM3 as a g# when I hit the g# pad and in c when I hit the c pad?

@king_picadillo the AUv3 will play in sync with the host, so if you change the tempo from eg 120 to 105 the loop in beathawk will change to the tempo. The loop will change pitch with the keys, but will stay in time. The root tuning of the sample will correspond to c3 in BM3. In this case g# would be located at c. You would need to change the tuning in BeatHawk for it to correspond note for note or sample it in BM3 and change it in there.

  • @arktek champion sound! Thank you, that actually makes more sense than my assumption. Absolutely loving the BM3/BH combo after buying a bunch of packs on sale.

All good. Yes, it's actually really cool sampling in BM3 when the AUv3 plugin is syncing that well. Lets you experiment a bit before it gets to a pad. Or, you can just leave it as a plugin instance - possibilities.

  • @arktek since you use this combo the exact way I intend to, I was hoping for a little help with a couple questions. How do you change the key/root note of loops in Beathawk? For some of the packs with loops, some of the loops aren’t key labeled (Spanish guitar loops) is the assumption that they are in C? I asked UVI on Insta and by email but didn’t get a response.

I think the only way to do it within the Beathawk is to play with the pitch controls. But, that might not be the best solution depending on what you're doing. You can play the parts in different keys within the app inside the pitch section, but I don't know if this will achieve what you're after either.

  • @king_picadillo would it be easier to change the root key in BM3 in the mapping window? I think that would work better. Sample the loop from Beathawk in sync, put the live stretch on ( you might have to make sure the sample bpm is set correctly in BM3 ) and go into the mapping window to change the root key. I don't know if the non labeled loops are in C.

  • @arktek yeah, man I basically settled on doing it in BM3. I’m currently using Beat Time! to find the individual notes in the unlabeled loops and then matching the notes to a scale. Wish there was a good scale detection Auv3, I guess Segments is ok, but the Beat Time! route is more foolproof even though it’s labor intensive.
