Definitely too much! But infinitely less than hardware or software for desktop.
That's my philosophy in some manner. I just prefer to focus on IAP that can extend what I already have. Seems I already have loads of FX too...
And this applies to gear too. Of course there are some stuff I would want, but no rush. My stuff is mainly from the 90s - early 2000s and they still do me fine.
Not an overall total, I honestly don’t think I want to know, lol, but I always do when I buy apps in small bursts. When Black Friday comes around, or Xmas, or New Years, or any sales spree where i buy several apps in a short period I keep a tally.
@Gavinski Lol. The coffee comparison does come up a decent amount, it reminds of those infomercials or donation commercials that say, for only a $1 a day, or whatever. I justify my purchases in a few ways, but ultimately, after some research, I think about how much time I will spend enjoying/using an app. You can’t do much for $10 these days, I can’t walk into any store without spending at least $20, so even if an app only gives me several hours of enjoyment, I’m usually ok with it…
$1000+ since I started with iOS music 1.5 years ago, which is less than one good guitar amp, so zero regrets...
I am using iOS music apps to help me detox from expensive hardware synths. Go check out the price of a new Nord Stage 3 88 HA if you're interested. ($4700 USD).
And, of course, the more hardware synths the better. I own several and really shouldn't be buying any more.
I do keep track and I'm something like $400 in and maybe another $200 to go for a few more core sounds.
The worst case scenario for me is that I flesh out my software rig -- and then go back to buying hardware synths. I'm already starting to get the itch.
I guess I should be thankful I'm not into pipe organs. Those guys are truly nuts.
I'm too scared to calculate. Something is better left unsaid and unknown!
Remind me of my very small modular system. I saved up for each module, ordering one every 3-4 months over a few years. After the first few modules, I threw away a spreadsheet documenting the cost of each. Too scared to look at the file! In a way, I hope these iOS apps together are much cheaper. Still, I don't want to know.
