In my opinion , if one bought only one Nembrini amp the BG Extasy would be it. Super versatile.
I have Howard Benson amp sim on my PC. The Marshall is a wild amp, very crunchy, I can confirm this. I didn´t use it for a long time, I have to get back to it to fresh up my memory. I mostly use the Twin amp sim on this amp sim package, when I use it.
Wow, i missed trying that, gonna check it out
I liked the brown sound/soldano and got the mhr (marshall) but i then got kuassa amps which blew away everything including the STL Howard Benson but only with EQ matching..
I read somewhere that it is supposed to be a 1974 45w Marshall tremolo with a 10inch,
STL removed the info about the amps and cab irs, they originally posted info about using Wizards, Brogner, Marshall etc and After i tone matched and cross referencing IRs i can tell you that the 1974 Marshall tremolo sounds identical to the Kuassa Vermilion (10” & 8” speakers) , that is if you use a boss sd1 or bx_yellowdrive from Plugin alliance and import the Howard Benson IRs for the Marshall or Jens Borgan ‘Valovirta” IRs to get close to a Marshall JCM800 2203.
What bugged me about the STL HB tonality was not just that they later hid what amps and speakers they used but they removed Howard’s amp layout (GUI), it was the best, you had all the amps right there unlike only one or two speakers, i tried asking them about it and they claimed their solution was better, i was like wtf, 20 ppl want it back, maybe its a copyright thing or lack of code skills or it is a Kuassa / JST clip etc under the hood but whatever the reason they never got back to me and after asking Mike only Howard showed up on my IG and liked a few videos but that could of been cause i worked with major labels and A&R in the past, im still confused with no answers but look at the layout, https://rekkerd.org/stl-tones-launches-tonality-howard-benson-guitar-plugin-suite/
I also compared other sims/amps with a sd1-yellowdrive-and ds1 by audiority cause these pedals all have the asymmetrical clipping option, but the Howard Benson sounds great out of the box!
The kuassa Vermilion is by far the tightest crunch jcm800 2203 tone i ever heard in a sim, Howard and Mike have the best out of the box but the tightness of the kuassa vermilion is awsome
Then their caliburn is nice more Marshall tone.
The creme is very nasty
The fuch II train sounds allot like that Nembrini BG ecstasy
Everything else including plugin alliance friedman - suhr etc sound like Fuches II train as far as crunch, then adding a Boss SD1 just gets you a decent Marshall chug egde
I just checked, wasn´t aware of that, indeed, I am on version 1.40 and the cab section is just an image of a speaker with some options, instead of this image of a room full with cabinets. I don´t fool much around in this section so I am pretty neutral about the change.
I played again with HB, makes me want to play more heavy or noisy music, playing chugg-chugg powerchords and screaming leads with amp 1 2 and 3 is a great experience. The screamer pedal (for signal boost) helps a lot with this. I even got screeching feedback from my guitar.
I like the Howard Benson as it comes with great IRs..
ok so, the two downsides of the Howard Benson sim for me is that:
1-they use a symmetrical clipping pedal like you mention (tube screamer etc) as to Asymmetrical clipping like the Boss sd1 and Marshall circuitry ., so the high gain gets you nice scooped tones but lacks that Marshall sd1 punch…
Then
2- the changes to cab section interface/GUI, I think they did this For the same reason they remove the names of the speakers and mics, To hide it from confederate Competitors that they used 8 inch and 10 inch speakers like the KUASSA vermillion , When STL first released the Howard Benson sim allot of people playing with the cabinets discovered that the smaller speakers sound better, tighter and more percussive which is great for chugs-attacks..but also as if it was the vermilion under the hood.
I tried reaching out to STL suggesting to put back the cab Sections Because it makes this sim the most unique but after several emails STL made it clear to me that they do not listen to any user suggestions, I don’t wanna speak negative about this company but it’s what they did and other people said they got the same impression about them, I hope they start listening to user suggestions cause i found it odd.
Great sim indeed, its allot like Fuchs train II and Friedman amps, im gonna posts tests next week
