Gauss or similar for Desktop??
As the title states, im wondering if there are any (MAC) plugins for desktop that are similar to Gauss. Any ideas?
Comments
Man, I hope so. I researched this myself a couple of weeks ago and was surprised I couldn’t really find anything.
The closest things I found are some very lightweight Fx plugins by Puremagnetik. The ones I ended up getting were cheap and fun but not all that similar to Gauss in practice. But, they kept my interest long enough to make me forget I was trying to find a Gauss-like app for desktop! (I grabbed a couple for $5 or something and forgot I was on the hunt!)
Just tried to find a link and found one of these plugins by Puremagnetik that I overlooked with the first search. This one appears to match a bit more closely than the ones I landed with but quite a bit different from Gauss from the looks of it:
Edit** Here is a link that actually works: https://puremagnetik.com/collections/pitch-time-devices/products/replicas-creative-splice-sampler
Hopefully someone else has some other ideas!
Umm. Maybe ask @brambos if there are any plans for his beautiful kit to be ported to M1 platform 🤯
I guess i just did. 😉
I mention AudioThing's Wires because Heinbach worked on it with them. It's not a looper though.

Here’s the other one I was thinking of: Edit* Link that works https://puremagnetik.com/collections/free-plugins/products/strata-particle-tape-loop-device-chris-child-micah-frank
This one is actually only $1 and it's probably been my favorite out of the couple I've tried from this dev.
Enso.
Good call on Enso, hadn't thought of that. That would be pretty amazing if Bram were to get it going on desktop!
PS - I corrected my links above, I was posting from my iPad and they cut off for some reason.
Would like to see that Wires thing on iOS!
@Obo ohh good call! I have something by puremagnetik, but i think its a delay or reverb, ill check out the others you mentioned.
@echoopera @brambos one can hope!
@mikewb I didnt realize Audio Damage stuff was available on desktop. thanks for the tip. I have Enso on iOS, and still sometimes use it alonside Gauss
@rtkeeling @Bietfriek i snagged Wires a while back, its awesome.
Yeah man, no worries at all! If you’re into that kind of thing, it’s definitely worth nosing around on Puremagnetik’s site to see all they have. They actually have some pretty solid sample packs and instruments available on there for free as well. I think they may all be Ableton packs though but if you have Ableton, highly recommend snagging their free sample packs - they’re a lot better than most and there are some instruments and Fx included as well. As far as the audio Fx, I feel like it’s a bit overwhelming trying to decide which ones to go with. The standard ones are all $20 each and there’s just a lot of them to try to choose from! Wish they’d bundle them up!
