  • Listened to the demo for this, lovely but I can't get it to install even after renaming the zip extension to dslibrary

I’m having the same experience. Too bad. It’s another 3GB organ instrument. The samples folder has 587 wave files.
The notes are sampled from 36 to 84 in 1/2steps. Maybe a quick Import into AudioLayer just to see what we are missing here.
Sampie Crate audition of the samples sound like pretty generic organ tones.

Hacking on the *dspreset file reducing complexity of the number of samples loaded might debug the loading issues.

Back to PianoBook to listen to the demo if there is one.

UPDATE: It’s a fairly generic sampling of a church pipe organ. It loaded all 500+ samples into AudioLayer based on file names but the “presets” and controls are missing.

I’m not promising to debug the dspreset file but I might. For 3GB of storage it’s probably not worth the effort for most but anyone with a 10GB to spare might implement these samples into an instrument.

As much as I’d love to finally have a dedicated church organ on iOS, I think I’ll have to stick with my Organteq soundfont and Thumbjam for now 😂

  • FYI RE: Oragnteq SoundFont

    Licensing Gray Area
These files have an unknown license, were obtained from unkown sources or were compiled from third party material.
    Non-free
Extra considerations: Samples recorded from Organteq using LMMS, and I did the same thing with Arturia as well, and I even did so with Pianoteq's classical guitar.

It’s a modeled instrument but still this seems shady to me. I know we can do this sampling but should we share these as sound fonts?

Our Decent Sampler guru! Thnx for checking McD. Curious what you think of that pianoteq sound font HotStrange mentioned. It sounds OK I guess but an organ with no control over stops etc is not that interesting perhaps

I’ll look for it and see what I think. The controls in PianoTeq
are why I love it. so a frozen sound sample holds little joy.

I’m over SF2’s in general and hoping for more and more modeled apps that expose their parameters for tweaking… tweaking to extremes that leave the physical realm and approach the sonic territory of synths.

I created many presets in PianoTeq that push back the envelope into immitations of other instruments that I hear in my experiments.

Unfortunately, it’s a small group that owns all the instruments and most only want pianos. So sampling my weird presets isn’t a PianoTeq font in my opinion… but it does use their IP so… I respect IP unless it’s freely licensed.

Agreed, modeling with ability to let u push the boundaries instead of just slavish emulation is the future

  • Good news (for me anyway) ; I reached out to the developer of VCCO, explaining that I wasn't able to use the "all drawbar" preset on my ipad. I asked if there was any way he could modify it, so that it was less resource-hungry. He got straight back to me and said he'd have a look.....and then, less than 24 hours later, said he'd tweaked things a bit, and managed to create something that he called "all drawbars lite", that should hopefully run on older, less powerful ipads! He's hoping to put it out soon. What a dude!

    Wow, nice!

  • Just heard from Benjamin, the developer.
New version with "lite" preset available now!

This is a good point. Definitely want to show respect to their IP so probably won’t be using it. Do we have other good options for church organs in AU format besides Beathawk? I really hope Organteq will come to iOS next. It sounds fantastic. I don’t even use church organs that often but they can be fun for experiments.

Agreed on patchmaking within Pianoteq. I only have the Hohner and Guitar packs (plus the included free instruments with stage unlock) and I’ve been able to make some nutty sounding patches. Messing with the worn quality, the attack, velocity, effects, etc can lead to some craziness. I’m excited to get the standard upgrade so I can really start pushing the boundaries.

  • I installed the OrganTeq soundfont… it’s a frozen preset that isn’t something I would reach for.
It’s not a great ad for OrganTeq, IMHO. But I’m sure being able to make changes I could find pipeorgan
    Settings I would love.

Yeah it’s definitely not great. There’s not really any great options for pipe or cathedral organs on iOS that’s also AU.

Crudebytes “iCathedral Organ” is AUv3. It’s OK but a bit dated in samples. Adding a rich reverb really helps.

Oh totally forgot about that one! You’re right. I haven’t tried it yet. I have Heavy Brass from them and it’s decent but not the best. Is iCathedral sorta the same quality? Also have you tried the Beathawk church organs?

  • There are a couple of reasonable soundfonts for pipe organs too.
    Here is one:
    https://musical-artifacts.com/artifacts/1040

I also got a soundfont for the Cavaille-Col organ too but can't find it on Google quickly.

There's also this monster organ in EXS24:
    https://samplephonics.com/products/free/sampler-instruments/the-leeds-town-hall-organ

I thought I could load that into AudioLayer but ran into issues with sample paths.
An audiolayer expert could probably get it to work (and let me know if anyone gets it to work).

I’ve got that first one. It’s pretty decent. Not amazing but useful.
