Inexpensive Powered Hub for use with Touché?
I think, thanks to a reminder from @rs2000, I may have found the solution for my particular MPE needs.... Expressive E Touché SE. Doug’s tutorial here...
This device requires a powered hub. What would you recommend for low cost choice? Thanks!

Yep, it should work if you have an iPad with USB C. I've powered my Touche using a Sabrent USB3 hub plus CCK to my iPad with a lightning connector. This hub and any others will be cheaper on Amazon. I recommend getting a 60w hub, so there's enough power for all connected devices.
Depends if your iPad is Lightning or USB-C. Looks like Lightning. For my Lightning iPad, I use the Apple USB 3 Camera Adapter, and this Atolla 7-port powered hub. Works like a champ. Included 20-W supply can power 2 iPads, 3 controllers, and audio DAC.
I don't believe the USB-C hub you linked includes the high voltage power adapter for USB-C Power Delivery. Perhaps you linked the wrong one?
@auxmux, thx, but no, I have a Pro2 so it’s not USBC. The specialist at B&H said it was no problem. However, after reading @tahiche ’s thread I’m concerned I could fry my iPad with a powered hub!
@uncledave, that Atolla looks great. Should I be concerned it might fry my iPad like @tahiche describes? I know you know your stuff, Dave. So I would feel better with your recommendation. 👍🙏
You won't fry your iPad with a powered USB hub. It doesn't send any power to the iPad host over the USB connection. You supply the power of your choice to the iPad through the Lightning USB-3 Camera Adapter, via its Lightning connector.
Sounds like your B&H specialist was offering incompatible gear.

Thanks. As I said, no chance of frying with the conventional USB powered hub. Confusion starts with USB-C and its high wattage (higher voltage) Power Delivery feature.
Just for reference, I have everything connected to the hub, and the hub to the Camera adapter, including the charging power from the hub. I power up the hub (switch on power strip), then finally connect the Lightning to the iPad, already open. It detects the gear, and everything just works.
Uhuh. I've been there. It's a long-standing discussion. His special feature is using a battery power bank to power the USB-C hub, and deliver power to the iPad.

Yeah, the power bank might be issue there, underpowering the hub and iPad, resulting in a fry.
If you are using iPad with CCK and powering USB hub using an outlet, it should be fine. This is my setup as well like @uncledave.

@uncledave, I’m a little confused. Will I need to use the a/cpower adaptor for this scheme to work? Isn’t that the same as @tahiche’s battery pak? Or is it the USB C that is causing his problem as it deals with higher wattages, as you said?

I got this 4 port version of the one recommended by @auxmux (with on/off switches). Very compact and I like having the switches (to stop the light show on an unused Launchpad among other things).

Mine didn't come with a power supply, but it does have a 5V input (1.35mm DC tip), so you can use it with a suitable power adapter or USB battery (no fry danger with cck to lightning as reported above).

Yes you could, but it seems it could also be the USB-C hub. I thought it was the powerbank but it’s happened with the new one... It seems like it’s all trial/error via dead iPads. That’s what happens when you’re a weirdo who wants to use headphones and use a midi keyboard...
I have 2 other iPads, I’m writing from an older iPad Pro with lightning that’s about 6 years old. Never had a problem. I’m pretty sure it’s a usb-c issue. I’ve plugged the lightning one into all kinds of hubs, peripherals and powerbanks. I’d say you’re ok with the lightning, at least in my experience.

It's a powered hub. You need to supply power to the hub, using the adapter connected to it. It sends that (5 V) power to all the USB ports. That takes the load off the iPad. The port on the end of the hub is a 12 W charging port, which you can connect to the Camera Adapter to keep the iPad charged. If you're worried about that, you can power the iPad from the Apple adapter, or just run on its battery.
They're just USB ports, like on a computer. They're all the same. You connect USB devices to them, the iPad can identify those devices, and decide what to send to them. If you don't have many USB devices, you could go for a smaller hub and save a few nickels. I went for the 7-port because I maxed out a 4-port passive hub, and I needed more power.
Cool. Thanks @uncledave. I’m excited. The other options...midi controller, Roli Seaboard, aren’t a good fit for me. So, I hope, the Touché will give me the expressively I am looking for. Have you seen the Osmose keyboard? Releasing soon but $1700. That’s a lot of powered hubs! Still, after watching this video.....
Whoa. That is a very exciting development. I had not heard of this one. I always liked the idea of the Seaboard but was never a fan of its surface feel (like the skin of a whale). This one has very cleverly modified aftertouch and vibrato in new ways.
@LinearLineman A couple important things to know about the Touche’ SE.
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure you lose the pitch bend feature unless you use it on the desktop with the included app Lié. With iOS you just have the four cc values - one per direction.
Also it’s not MPE. Don’t expect it to work with any MPE synth out of the box. You will have to midi learn four or more parameters to it’s four cc values. It has no aftertouch nor does it send any note values.

Tho tonite I used the Cubasis keyboard mod wheel to add vibrato to some horns and it worked great. That may be enough... we shall see!

Been using the 4 and 7 port Atolla powered hubs for years with my ipad since I saw Doug using them had no problems very reliable and well packaged.
I’m using an Icy Box 10 port hub and I’m very pleased. Solid build with aluminium body. The EU power supply has no ground connection - no ground loop. Power supply delivers a lot of juice 5 amperes. This hub is very common in studios.
