Seems like it. I am sure it has changed and grown but I tried to use it a few times over the years and there was always some weird ‘oh right that’, and then I uninstall it. Can it export stems now without a mute/solo workflow?
don't think so.
If you really wanna entice someone, show'em something that is beautiful, cool and also fun! Definitely, do not show ugly apps no matter how powerful they are (you might turn them off instead of enticing them into iOS music).
GarageBand for instant gratification - nothing can beat its Drummer, Beat Sequencer, Live Loops, Drums, Smart Instruments, World Instruments, Audio Library and the list goes on... (audio tracks included). GB may have an issue/shortcoming or two but which other app doesn't have issues/shortcomings?
(Yeah, this is coming from someone who loves Cubasis)
The app that blew me away years back - thumbjam ... all touch screen and all useful space ... just a pristine classic ... impresses even the least musical ... I've seen a lot of smiling kids making their first music ever on this little gizmo.
So, about that playable 16 step drum sequencer…
TC-11. Spacecraft, Borderlands, Voco, Animoog, Samplr, Gestrument, being able to draw partials with your fingers in real time in some Virsyn apps like microTera, Thumbjam, Geoshred, Shoom, Gadget to name a few that immediately come to mind.
Personally, I start with free or low cost apps.
Koala has been my go to and it’s been a great conversation starter during my time in college. Told a classmate of mine that I could make a song with anything. Got Koala, recorded their voiceover, added a few random samples, and made a beat.
Next one is Figure. Super intuitive…just tap the screen and record. The alternative for Android is Beatonal.
Blocs Wave into Ampify Launchpad is the next one. Pick loops you like, instantly turns into a song.
Then if they’re looking for something advanced, I start with Garageband to get an idea of what they know. Then, I can either show them Gadget 2, Nanostudio 2, Beatmaker, Cubasis, Drambo, AUM, or Zenbeats (Android)
Nevermind! I see it now (PS)
I always forget about Figure. My 3 year old loves it! So easy even a child can make music.
Bebot
It’s a work in progress.
Good point.
Drambo for showing something original
Cubasis 3 for showing an alternative to desktop
I know that this is basically blasphemy on this site but I haven’t ever used or even looked at Drambo. I knew many would choose it though!
Touchscaper. I show it to music teachers that I work with and it blows them away. Touchscreen playability, a drum and synth sequencer and the smart arpeggiator (it was the first arpeggiator I used and others seem daft in comparison).
I create a chord progression, route it to pure piano and play the most wonderful tunes that I could never play on a real piano.
Koala sampler. It’s pretty much amazing
I wouldn't worry, more than enough great apps to use and never touch drambo. I have 3 different setups with drambo, aum and cubasis and would be happy making music with either one 😀
The main thing that a tablet offers over desktop is the touch screen. GeoShred is probably the app that makes the best use of the touch screen.
Other advantages are app pricing that is like 90% more affordable, and the get-grooving-quick fun factor (e.g., Gadget, Beathawk, etc.)
Tonaly, Animoog, GeoShred, Symphonia are cool too
Beat maker 3 if they like the 16 pad approach
Zenbeats is they want something like Ableton
Has audio tracks, clip launching and your standard timeline
Borderlands has sent many to iOS!
Original Beatmaker sent me…
GarageBand definitely.

Exactly. This 100%.
Semi modular combos?
More interesting than a Daw. More interesting than a keyboard synth. More interesting than granular. More interesting than expressive screen apps.
Sound wise best. Easier than modular.
Yes, it has to be a touchscreen app. DrumJam would be my top choice. Obviously Animoog, GeoShred, Thumbjam, Samplr, etc. are all in the running.
Impaktor, Roli Seaboard or Kaosilator to try and suck someone in with a single app.
Animoog is the one that every person wants to have a play with.
Having the Eventide FX on my phone tends to get musicians excited.
This doubleplus
Hmmm, interesting that no-one has mentioned 'Flip', wasn't it supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread? 🤔😋
Samplr
