Large youtube upload problem

I have a a rendered project from LumaFusion that is longer than 15mins.

It doesn’t upload within LumaFusion though I have uploaded
videos directly from there before and longer than 15 mins.
I’ve rendered it to the Files app and tried dragging and
dropping onto youtube studio directly in the browsers
which has worked before in the past.

It keeps on getting stuck at 0%

The file size is approx 9Gb.
It’s at 1K, H264, 44.1kHz and 50Mpbs.

My youtube account is verified to remove the 15mins limit.
I’m iOS only so desktop suggestions are out of the question.

Any ideas?

  • What kind of internet connection are you using? Maybe try restarting your router?

  • edited May 2021

Not sure about the upload problem, but 50 Mbps bitrate seems like total overkill for a 1k video at a normal framerate. 5 Mbps should be more than enough and reduce the filesize to less than 1 GB (you probably meant 9 GB, not 9 Gb).

  • So you tried uploading from luma and also the browser? Have you tried the youtube app?

Yup, 50Mbps is most probably overkill,
I haven't had any problems with it before though.
I usually upload at a higher quality and let YouTube do the dithering down.
Yup, it should've been ,'approx 9GB'.

    Okay I'll try that.

    Yup to both questions.
The youtube app won't let me upload for some reason hence why
I've always used either LumaFusion or Chrome and access youtube studio that way.

Good suggestion, I'll try that as well.

Just to be clear.... you tried with both of these...?

  • And you also tried with this...

    All three?

    or Chrome

    Tried Safari?

  • How much space is free on your device?

  • @Gravitas What's your iOS version? I wonder if this is yet another problem with iOS 14.5.

    Yup.

and as mentioned three different browsers including Safari.

It's a 256GB Air3 with less than half used in regards to space so space isn't an issue.

    Good question.

My iOS version is 14.4 and thinking about it I may
not have done an upload since this update.
    It certainly isn't iOS 14.5.
I'm reticent to update to iOS 14.5 because
everything works nicely right now except this little issue.

I'm going to try reducing the bit rate to see if that makes a difference.

I think you just said ‘the browsers’.

  • I had issues trying to upload to YouTube from the app and lumafusion last week. Kept saying error and not going past 0%

I gave up and weirdly the next day it had uploaded. Never had issues in the past

  • @gravitas: have you power-cycled or hard-reset the device? I am amazed how often that solves weird issues.

    Exactly this.
I've been having to continuously sign back in to
my YouTube account from within Lumafusion as well.

LumaFusion renders to Files but when trying to render to YouTube
it results in a quick render and says it's complete yet it hasn't done so.

    I haven't hard-reset the device yet.
    I'll try that as well.

  • Quick update.

For some reason it's now uploading.

I even asked on the LumaFusion forum and they didn't know either.
    I didn't change anything.

If it happens again I now have a checklist.

    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Okay quick update.

Youtube had known issues the day I was trying to upload from Lumafusion,
I got a message from them so the mystery is now solved.
