FLYING WITH XKEY AIR IN CHECKED BAGGAGE

I'm flying from the UK to Portugal next month, and need to take my xKey Air in checked baggage (37 keys won't fit in hand baggage). But it's unclear if it's okay for it to go in hold baggage or not (I'm flying with RyanAir).

If you have any experience with this, especially flying from the UK, I would love to hear from you.

It's not clear from RyanAir whether it's okay or not. They exclude the following lithium ion powered items from hold baggage: segways, hoverboards, personal electronic devices (iPhone, iPad, e-reader and similar). I'm not clear if it would be classed as a personal electronic device or not.

I've tried to call RyanAir, but can't get through so far, so hoping someone has experience of this and can help.

A long shot but for these gray areas with strict airlines, I personally recommend considering if you can somehow wear it on your person during boarding. Such as a jacket with an inner pocket it can stick out of.

A 37 key key air is not going to fit in any pocket, unfortunately. Nor in my hand luggage, I would have gone for the 25 key model had I realised.

    Sorry couldn't resist.

    Had the same problem recently.

I used to have a 25, but the USB got busted. I replaced it with a 37, but honestly, I'd rather have the mobility than the extra octave. Especially as when home recording I have better options for keys. Lesson learned.

  • I'd be nervous with those hold rules.

I understand (but do check) that the largest dimensions for a cabin bag (for priority flyers) with Ryan Air seems to be 55x40x20 cm. I'd try and get a cabin bag which fits the keyboard if packed diagonally. And I'd pay the extra to go priority.

I have priority and the largest cabin bag, but it simply won’t fit. I suspect on on a loser with this.
