Hi, this is my music place:

As you can see, actually I use a flying crab to have my iPad Pro 12.9 closest to me while playing. I use it with Cubasis and also to read digital scores. Actually, this is very bad and unpractical, because it’s not rock stable, but always oscillating.
Now that Cubasis has mackie support, I would like to add a Prosonus digital controller, but honestly I really don’t know how to solve. I would like a place to read paper scores and a need a place to have my iPad closer to me.
How would you solve the problem? Do you have any product to re-arrange my 2nd keyboard and place in a better way the iPad? Thanks a lot, I really need your help.
Regards

  • I'd use a tiltable speaker wall mount that's long enough to let the iPad hover right in front if you. There are hard plastic cases available for the iPad that can be screwed to the wall mount but I would build my own magnetic clutch.

  • Levo stand for iPad

If you don’t want to spend any money, build your own elevated shelf out of corrugated cardboard or wood. This way you could control exactly how high at what angle your iPad will be on your desktop. And you could stabilize it by attaching to the back of the wooden desktop with glue or nails/screws or even staples. :) It might not look pretty, but it would be completely custom.

    Levo stand for iPad

Thanks. This seems to be very good:

Do you think it will be rock solid?

Thanks for your answer. This could be also a good solution, but I fear I don't have time to project and create a DIY solution, which, surely would be better because personalized.

The one I have is similar to this K&M 24171 except mine is tiltable.
This one definitely doesn't shake around when finger drumming.

If you enter "speaker wall mount" or "ipad wall mount" on amazon, ebay etc then you'll find a lot.

Can you post a picture of your solution in your studio? Thanks!

  • Why not arrange as an “L-shape” with the second keyboard/ controller on the side?

Sadly the room is small and on the left I’ve the heater. On the right I’ve a desk. I need to do it vertically.

  • Maybe use a desk mic arm and attach an ipad holster instead of a mic to the end of it, which would allow you move it in and out of your way really quickly. I do this all the time, the Rode PSA is my favorite.

This solution seems to be good, but how can I attach an iPad to it? Thanks

If you search ipad mic stand on ipad you’ll get some great results. I use one like this

  • Great thread and suggestions. Woot!

  • How about placing the novation keyboard to your left, above the radiator. Then your stand for your paper scores could come forward. You can put your iPad on that stand and use it as it as your digital score reader. Plenty of room on the kawai to place your new presonus fader.

I fear heat can damage the keyboard

  • Put it on an x stand a bit above the heating. Silicon is heat resistant, think of all those silicon oven mittens and baking forms that are popular now. That novation keyboard does have a silicon bottom, doesn't it?

Heat is not good for the electronics inside the keyboard, no matter what casing.

  • Are there any operating temps in the manual? A laptop could generate more heat internaly then the heater. If the heater does not go above 50 degrees Celsius it will be ok I think.

  • I would get one of those double x stands for the kawai. Use the x stand you allready have for the novation. And also get those wall mounts for the monitors...

Random DIYish idea. Use a couple of shoeboxes or something similarly sized to raise your speakers up a bit. Or maybe the AKAI EIE interface under one speaker and whatever you have under the other. Then, put a board across the top of them. The board should be just deep enough to hold a sturdy, fixed iPad stand. Now the iPad is at eye level and you can mash on it all you want without some arm moving around too much. Can add a bit of foam or cloth above your speaker to avoid scratching them.

Raising the speakers first will hopefully allow you enough clearance to see/use the Novation controller comfortable as well as read anything on your music stand.

    If not...

Similar idea but lay your speakers on their sides (woofers on the inside, tweeters on the outside). Then, lay a board across them. If you push them to the back wall, seems like you'd have enough clearance to comfortably manipulate the Novation and then you'd have room for the iPad stand as well as the sheet music stand atop the board.

This seems to be an outstanding solution, but can speakers lay on their sides without ruining sound?

Yes. Keep the tweeters ear level and form an equilateral triangle at your listening position and all should be great

I will test it, but I will need to buy a wood stand. This solution seems to be easier and faster.

FYI Your speakers are similar to the NS10’s (in theory) so you might like the sound better on their sides. That’s the way we prefer our HS50m’s and HS80m’s
