Help - Digitone syncing with AUM
hi peeps! Hope all is well with you all.
I could really use some help from the hive mind. I'm trying to use my DigiTone with AUM, and having trouble syncing... so far:
I've connected DigiTone to iPAD via USB, and I'm listening to the iPad via the DigiTone. I press play on AUM and it plays DigiTone. Great!
But I can't work out how to press play on the DigiTone to play AUM? I've tried all kinds of things - anybody have any advice?
Thanks!

Since AUM can't slave to MIDI clock, you need to use something that can convert midi clock to Ableton Live and set AUM to sync to Ableton live. Audiobus 3 can do that. There is also a (free?) utility that converts midi clock to Ableton link.
I've tried Midi Link Sync, which seems to receive a play signal from Digitone, but I can't seem to get it to connect with AUM so that it works. I definitely don't want to use Audiobus - much prefer AUM. Any ideas?
You can use audiobus with AUM. Do you have AUM and midilinksync both set to start/stop in the Ableton link settings?
I’ll check. How would I use audiobus with AUM?
ALSO - how about Ape Matrix? I have that too.
Thanks so much!
Just set Audiobus to receive MIDI clock from the Digitone and enable Link and Link Start/Stop in both AUM and Audiobus.
To keep Audiobus from going to sleep if all you're using it for is a Clock to Link bridge you need to load something into an audio output slot in Audiobus. This can be AUM, but it can also simply be the system audio output. Nothing needs to be feeding the output.
Audiobus is excellent for smoothing the clock as well. To see how much jitter there can be without it, try hooking up one of the clocks that has a BPM readout in miRack to the external clock.
Working!
However - 3 questions:
1. There's an annoying 1 bar count in when I press play on Digitone, so when Im performing, this screws me up because drum beats coming from AUM are 1 bar out. Any ideas?
2. Audio levels are a bit all over the place. Digitone is very quiet, while the iPad is very loud. Is this normal? And I just need to muck around with the levels and get them balanced?
3. Is it normal for things to freeze, and crash?? Seems kinda unpredictable.
Thanks so much.
You don't have LINK enabled, do you? If so, that's the deal with LINK (and why I prefer MIDI clock)
Make sure you check the complete audio path and gain staging
It sure isn't. What audio buffer sizes?
Can you describe your AUM setup? Maybe other apps could replace it.
Well, I’ve now switched so that I’m pressing play on AUM and it instantly triggers Digitone. All good.
But NOW I’m faced with the frustration of not being able to work out how to map one of the buttons on my M AUDIO code 61 to the play button in AUM. I’ve gone through the manual and programming the button doesn’t seem to work
I’m going to post a separate question.
How do you map it in AUM?

@rs2000 and @wim, as ever, doing the Lord's work. I have so many bookmarked threads where one or the other of you has demystified some midi problem with exceptional elegance. Thank you guys.
Oh wow, thank you! 😊
If the Lord were walking the earth today would He even want us to have a Digitone?
I believe He prefers tablets.
I see you found your way over here from that other site.
