  • Wonder if they will drop some new goodies soon?

  • Damn. I have undulator and black hole. If I got one more what should it be?

I'm a sucker for Spring. As far as I'm aware, it's the only true physically modeled spring reverb available on IOS. All the others are IRs.
Much more subtle than blackhole, but it's really good for what it is.

Ohhhh can turn that up like crazy though. Make it really sound “springy” if you know what I mean.

What do you guys think about Ultra Tap Delay and TriCera Chorus?

I’m loving the smeared delay thing that UltraTap can do.

  • Am I alone in finding these apps kind of unfriendly? And a little untameable? I already have FAC Alteza; is blackhole anything different?

Crushstation is very good, assuming you already have Saturn.

Those are two of my favourite three. The other one is MicroPitch, which is relatively vanilla so far as these Eventides go, but it really nails a particular familiar sound. You might be looking for a different thing yourself, but if classic Eventidiness appeals, I'd give the demos a listen (plug-in and pedal demos should sound the same as the app, if you want a deeper dive). For the other effects too.

I highly doubt it‘s physical modelling - you can get quite close to a typical spring response with a modulated delay - and Eventide has a vast portfolio in that domain.
It once happened to me when fiddling with the Lexicon Vortex (which essentially is 2 modulated delay lines), that a „wow, sounds like a spring verb“ popped up before my inner ear. o:)

How well does it pull off the deep surf tones?

Yes x 3 so far lol. Have most of them, Blackhole gets the most usage but I’m currently having alot of fun with QVox. All are well worth their price imho.

How do you find having the 4 voices hard panned left and right on QVox? The fact that this cannot be changed always makes me hesitate about getting it

The reason I think it’s physically modeled is because you can actually get the springs to self resonate, and by tuning the spring tension get the springs to play discrete pitches. I’ve done this by sending short impulses to Spring, and managed to get it to produce bass lines and melodies. Spring decay and tension - while not a great deal of parameters, but it’s still the basis of a physically modeled spring. By stretching a spring or wire in the real world, the same results would be possible.

I don’t have an electric guitar at the moment! Maybe someone else could chime in on this one.

  • Just got Blackhole for the desktop. Been waiting for a while to it to come down to a low price. Have been kicking myself since the last time it went down to $29 and I didn't get it.

To my ears not aaaaallll that well. I love spring reverb and pretty much always play with the spring reverb on my Swart AST
ramped up pretty high, But I struggle to get something I really like out of Spring. I downloaded some spring IRs that i use in implusation, and I'm often going between the two, sometimes one is better than the other depending on what I'm after.

Tension = frequency, resonance = feedback gain... just a matter of labels ;)
I‘m with @SimonSomeone : it sounds rather artificial.
Hint: a Roland Cube 30 from early 80s got a great spring inside and can be used as an fx unit (without engaging the speaker). A bit bulky, but they usually go for cheapo... probably because the amp is ultra-clean and cannot do any kind of (nice) distortion.

Show me another spring reverb that you can tune to play a bass line with, with nothing but a virtual plectrum. I'm no dsp programmer though, so I could just be talking out of my ass about this being modeled haha.

Here's an example of using Eventide Spring to make melodies and bass lines though. There are 4 instances of Spring, each instance is tuned to a different note. The only audio source is an unpitched impulse. I love working with this app in this way.

Its also possible to play the spring as a monophonic voice by controlling tension/frequency with key tracking (of course this requires proper scaling).

  • Do you guys also still see the Pro Effects Bundle 1 and the Reverb Bundle, but not the Pro Effects Bundle 2? Is that a mistake, last time they had alle the bundles removed during the sale.

Bro, you are telling me you are playing the reverb as some kind of freak "spring" instrument? That's amazing (and sounds amazing, too). Fantastic use of the effect.

Precisely! It's no different to taking a real spring or wire, holding it taught, then giving it a little whack. Basically all you need to do is get the spring into an audible vibrating range with a high tension. The way to 'trigger' the spring is to excite it with a short impulse, say from 3-50ms long. From there you tune the decay and resonance to taste, and use the in built eq to filter out the highs frequencies and boost the lows. It's works remarkably well. I was going to do a video on this, and other resonant apps, but I jumped the gun a little here. When I do do the video, I'll provide a utility to play Spring as a monophonic voice, in scale.

    Glad you enjoyed!

Thanks, yeah it sounds good. Looks like you can’t go wrong with anything. Don’t really know what I want. Micro pitch only $5 so I think I’ll go w that :).

  • Somehow I was able to complete the Pro Effects Bundle 1 and get CrushStation, Crystals Harmonizer, Undulator and MangledVerb all for like $11. I already had Blackhole and MicroPitch.

I will never understand App Store bundle pricing.

I love Ultratap. Tricera is good but doesn't excite me

  • Yowza... hadn’t intended to get any more beyond my Blackhole, CrushStation, and Undulator but my Pro Effects Bundle was only $5 to complete!!! Couldn’t pass that up!

  • I‘m a little bit disappointed about Crystals Harmonizer. I thought, I can bypass the reverse delay but this is not the case. So - I cannot use the pitch section alone.

Thanks for the heads up, I've just got CrushStation and MangledVerb for free 👍🏻
It surely is a way to encourage the purchase of the other 3 I still don't have (Tricera, Spring and Shimmer), but it's a no way for me. Now that we have confirmation that Timeless 3 is around the corner, I spare every euro for it 🤩😎.

This is only one I’m not interested to have… will probably buy one of the pitch shifters in the next few days, trying to decide which will be more useful.

I can echo @Gavinski that UltraTap is awesome! Love the smeared delay thing.
