AUM and Apps Sample Rate / MIDI detuning
Hey, hope everyone here is having a good time
I'm having some trouble with some apps and Sample Rates, is detuning Synths and Pianos from AUM. But yesterday i had some apps open in AUM at 44.1 (Sektor, Koala, Electric, Korg Module and different FXs) and my MIDI piano was detunes like 1 tone below the note.
Anyone had any idea about it ?
So now, everytime that i play idk if i'm playing correctly in tune or not. Very confusing !
I was using the Tonestack tuner and show me that everytime was OK but my brother who had better ear than mine told me that is detuned, also my piano teacher
Thanks a lot for any help

Have you isolated which music app is out of tune? If so, contact the developer. Recently, many developers had to update their apps to fix this. A few haven't yet. Try 1 app at a time in AUM to find the culprits.
Are you using an audio interace?
Yes, i'm using a very old M-Audio Fast Track, so Sample rate is fixed to 44.1
And yes, i tried to do but now i don't know which one is ..... At least i have problems with Module and Electric
Make sure that your host app and device are set to the same sample rate. And then make sure any apps or plugins that have sample rate settings are also set to thar sample rate.
Are you sure the Fast Track is 44.1k only?
Yep, i'm trying to have AUM at 44.1 and 512 or 1024 Buffer Size. But idk if is any app who is changing the sample rate or detuning the piano or synths. Super shitty, even that i can pitch down a tone my MIDI, is fucking weird.
What OS version and hardware are you running?
Wow, that interface was released around 2003. Surprised it still works.
Just observing that apps which use recorded samples, like Module, may have trouble with the sample rate. Those that generate audio on the fly, like Model D, should handle it gracefully. The pitch shift caused by playing a 44.1 kHz sample at 48 kHz is 146.7 cents, a semitone and a half.
I think most of the current samplers/romplers take sample rate differences into account.
iOS 13 something, haha .... and i'm using an iPad 6th 2018. Bit old but works amazing
still looking a DAW to use with not too much CPU haha > @ocelot said:
And yes, is old AF but still works great
was looking some iConnectAudio but couldn't get it here

Thanks a lot for the answer. Maybe Module or Koala is moving the Sample Rate to 48kHz.
Thanks for the answers to everyone ! I will check Module rn
My iPad is also a 2018 iPad 6 running iOS 13.7. Koala is playing back samples at the correct pitch for me when my iPad is set to 44.1k or 48k...I also tested AudioLayer and Moog Model D.
A first test for you to try is to try both of those sample rates with headphones rather than with your interface...to ensure that it isn't an issue particular to the interface.
I checked Korg Module Pro using the 4pockets tuner and a 440Hz sine wave and it appears to be in tune, at 44.1kHz and 48kHz. I don't have an external BOSS tuner though. What is 'Electric'?
Thanks a lot. Will try to do that first...... because i don't think would be an MIDI issue. > @ocelot said:
I guess i need a Tuner for iOS. That tuner is in 4pockets Nurack ?
Electric is the apeSoft Electric Vintage AUv3
NuRack has one, but I use the one in Analyser & Tuner since it's more reliable (NuRack craps out when changing sample rate, requiring a reload of its AU plugin).
Here's Nurack's AudioTuner on the left, Analyser & Tuner's Tuner on the right. 44.1kHz, then 48kHz with Korg Module Pro (Synth: Sine Lead preset).
44.1kHz:

48kHz:

Thanks a lot !!! I will try to check it out. Maybe it's the M-Audio (idk but it's locked in 44.1, doesn't have 48kHZ at all)
Now i restart my AUM session and it's everything OK, super weird. Didn't try Module neither Koala yet hahaha i'm happy listening OK for a while
It sounds like somehow the OS was running at 48k. If it happens again, power down your system and disconnect everything. Then reconnect after you reboot.
