How to group multiple AUv3 instances ?

edited June 2021 in General App Discussion

I’m using (6) of the same AUv3 plugins on (6) separate channels in AUM.

Is there away to make all (6) behave the same? Right now, I have to set each plugin to the same setting one by one.

The (6) channels all have the same output, but different inputs.

Setup 1 channel, change the AU parameters, use AUM's MIDI CTRL to map some parameters, then duplicate the channel. The parameter settings and MIDI CTRL mappings are copied to the duplicates.

Oh, but if you have multiple AU effects loaded on a channel, then that won't work, unless you delete what you don't need from the duplicates.

Save a few AUM projects as templates, then in new projects, you can import individual channels to your new project.

    Duplicate.

  • Out of curiosity, are these FX or synths?

Yes, just set one channel up how you want and Duplicate

  • Yes, Effects. I want to be able to edit the same parameters on all (6) channels simultaneously.

Humm... if all are doing the same job, then why would you use six of them rather than one? The typical way to do this, unless I'm misunderstanding what you want to do, is to set the FX up once on a send channel, then to send all the channels you want to apply the FX to through that channel. That simplifies control while reducing processing time drastically.

Is using bus-sends a process you're not familiar with, or is there some other reason why six separate instances are needed?

Just making sure I understand what you're trying to do before offering suggestions.

  • I have 6 sound sources each running into thier own channel in AUM. I want process them independently for better separation.

I’m familiar with bus processing. I’m wondering if there is a channel link like in logic and other apps.

If I could engage and disengage the link function that’d help my work flow immensely should I wish to deviate then lock.

  • Point a midi controller (app or hardware) at the FX app in the 6 channels?

  • Yeah…that would work…

No channel/node group link/unlink function in AUM ?

No, there isn't. In fact, I don't think there is any iOS host that has such a thing.

I think I understand now - you want to do further processing in the chain after each FX.
Have you considered sending to six busses post the single instance of the FX for your downstream processing? I see no reason why that wouldn't work, unless I still don't understand what you're trying to do.

So ... app 1, 2, 3 each with a send to bus A containing the FX followed by sends to bus B, C, D, E, F, & G. Those busses have your downstream FX for additional processing. Maybe?

  • Yeah…that works kinda like paraphonic processing…

I’m interested in a polyphonic approach to FX processing.

    Ok thanks guys. Appreciate it!

Hmm… Cubasis has got group tracks since version 3. There is an AU FX plugin for grouping tracks but I never used it.

I don't think that's really what's being asked for here. I think it's not just grouping tracks for mixing purposes, but grouping somehow so that actual plugin controls all move together. I could be wrong though.

  • You are right.
