Recording stems from AUM? Straight into Cubasis or in AUM

Hello beautiful people of ABF. Maybe a silly question. I love doing my work ups in AUM but then I want to put it into a timeline that I can see. Mostly I have been just recording a lot of stems then exporting them to Cubasis. I have seen a few videos from folks that set up Cubasis as a output and record directly in to there.

What are the advantages of this? Or is there?

Thanks!!

  • The advantage of printing the stems into Cubasis is that you have more control over clipping and stuff.. but sometimes Cubasis works weird when recording using IAA in the background (maybe this bug was fixed with the last Cubasis 3 update).
On the other hand, you can always print the stems using the AUM recorder, and then setting them up in a Cubasis session for mixing.

Yes this is what I normally do. Just did not know if I was missing something. Thanks!

  • I’ve never tried going straight into Cubasis but like the idea a lot. Not sure if Cubasis 3 supports AudioBus State Saving but if it does going AUM > AB3 > Cubasis might be a nice recallable template/setup.

If you give it a shot, would be interested to hear how it goes for you.
