  • StormJH1, NS2 will have audio tracks. Here's a quote from the dev on the NS forum last month:

"I wanted to keep NS2 compatible with NS1 but I think it's going to hold NS2 back if I'm not careful. I think the simplest method to take NS1 projects to NS2 right now will be to render them as audio tracks."

I love Nanostudio, so I'm going to wait for the shiny new one :)

Awesome! I hadn't seen any news on NS2 other than its existence, so that's good to hear.

@digitalresonance cool, I look forward to that. I love Biohazard.

Thanks pal glad u like it.. I've been making version 2 for some time. Much more beats, I thought I'd do more midi programming for the beats this time. So u can assign different kits to the midi patterns. I was hoping that intua would update beatmaker 2 with better fx as in my opinion that's its one major flaw and limits what I can do with the packs as far as the mini project files. There's a breakbeat pack and house music pack coming too :)

  • You were hoping?! I still am hoping! If they don't update the effects I'm not exactly sure what they will be improving? You clearly must know more than me. This would suck man.

  • I would expect the new effects to be a feature of BM3, BM2 might be finished as is

  • Hey @Digitalresonance were you referring to bm2 or bm3?

  • I was referring to bm2 as far as fx.. Or did u mean my packs? I have based them around bm2. But would like to incorporate the new features of bm3. So I was thinking perhaps to wait for bm3 but I got a feeling it could be quite a long way off..

Lol.. I ment I hoped they would of updated them buy now :) but I do know they are re designing all the fx :) as the fx we currently have where all based on ipad1 processing power etc.

It baffles my mind why they have opted for pretty much re writing a whole new app in place of just updating a very capable bit of Kit. If it had a wider selection of fx with better algorithms and better filters in the sampler with improved Lfos and a few other things here n there I could use it like my Cubase 7.. It's frustrating.. I even got meteor recently after realising it actually has what beatmaker lacks in some departments but was completely stopped in my tracks when I realised there was no fx automation. And the midi editing is pretty hard work and frustrating. I will say tho. If meteors midi editing could be made much more user friendly and they add automation to the fx then at that point it becomes a very capable DAW. I was using it for some drum and bass and I was getting really good results using the fx to sculp and shape bass sounds. The moving animated type. But like I said the lack of automation made the whole thing pointless :(

Someone make an app and fill in the gaps.. Lol :)

  • I hope they're not gonna fuck it up, that's all ;) p.s. Probably unlikely but I hope they aren't going to quirk it up even more!

  • The rewrite may have to do with low level stuff none of us understand. Maybe there's just no way to change the file system without basically starting over. Certainly they're not going to rewrite every line of code but breaking it all down into legos and rebuilding might be the only way. Sadly, as code ages and hot fixes are applied and duct tape is added it gets harder and harder to make legos out of them. Sometimes you just have to stop, take what's good and start over if you aim to work on it and expand it beyond a certain point.

I would be much more stoked to see any of these improvements than a change to the file system but I know that there is popular demand for this. Hope than we don't lose a near-perfect app. C'mon INTUA! you can do it!

Sure.. Same here. I got used to the file system and don't really have a problem with it. Not sure what's wrong with it to be fair.

  • Guess I'm just about getting used to the file system to. It just doesn't create a project folder and put all the files used twin that project in that folder. If they could at least put an identifier in the name of what project does the file belong to. The problem is that you're only asked the name of the file when you save so there you go. In a way I like it because it makes me think of my use of space and to use audio in a loop form rather than long continuous audio files. Once you have your own system in place you end up with a bankful of your own loops ready to use in other apps like samplr or turnado.

It is a win win situation if you're an optimistic type of person ;)

Lol yeah... If there's one thing I am then that has to be optimistic. :)

When you click save, check the "copy samples" box, it then creates a folder with all the samples for that project and the project file within. The only downside is the samples from that project are duplicated (once in the "recordings" folder, and then the folder just created). The files in the "recordings" folder are then made redundant though, so you can just delete those out and you're good to go.

  • I go through and delete the contents of the "recordings" folder about twice per year, takes a few minutes. I always thought that it was nice to have back-ups of everything but I've never had to actually retrieve a project this way, the app is stable enough that it became sort of an extraneous feature

  • That's seems like a great tip @CalCutta thanks, I'll check it out later

  • If they only rewrote the file system and called it BM3 I'd fork over my money for it. I'd just like to be able to delete samples and organize my files easier. Those are honestly my biggest gripes about BM2 as it stands.

  • @supadom

I would of thought u was aware that a project and all it's content could be saved in one folder?

Agreed. I would do the same.

    @Digitalresonance-
Meteor actually does have fx animation, both with controller lanes and real time knob action...
I still use and prefer BM2, though

No mate.. It doesn't have real time automation of the fx knobs in the fx rack.... It's has automation of the fx sends rotary knobs.... So you can automate the amount of effect. That's no good. I need to move the filters cutoff and resonance, control the delay times over time, do reverb automation on bits here n there using the size knob and length knobs.. This is impossible at the moment as those knobs u can't automate.

Well, it wasn't that obvious without reading the manual. Most of daws ask you to name the project on opening or create a project folder from the start and shove all of the samples/data/media in it. We've always known beatmaker 2 was a king of quirks.

Yeah I hear that a fair bit... I don't dispute it either I just haven't really had any issues. I found the work flow pretty good yet I hear lots of moaning. It's as close to my normal workflow compared to any other app.

  • If you hear a lot of people moaning then most probably there is a reason to it. You may be a read breed of a person who just flies through software without a glitch. I'm happy for ya. I have to say that I am enjoying using it now but things were not like that when I first got it so I kind of understand why people are moaning. I'm also pretty sure Intua lost some good cash because of that moaning so I wouldn't underestimate it if I were them if they're at all interested in commercial success of the sequel.

  • I love BM2, and you can search through my older comments to see how much I've praised the app, but I wouldn't for a second pretend the UI is anything less than clunky. Hopefully they'll sort that with the upcoming BM3.

  • I didn't know you were into BM2, @boone51...

  • Hope that sorting the UI doesn't cost iPhone compatibility but otherwise I'm all for it, there are some aspects of navigation that might be made speedier. I find the present workflow really intuitive. IMO the interface is less than beautiful, it just works so well that I don't care at all :)
