!VLC APP! GOOD APP!
Did you ever struggle with the apple garden having unnatural, constructed walls, where you cant just import and export files? I remember I paid for some apps to be able to bypass flippin iTunes, to drag and drop music folders and movies.
I recently wanted some movie on the road (I Have the 256gb iPhone 8+),
And by gully, sweet treats it works! Just need wifi though. VLC was made by gorgeous French internet activist students, that is why it's free and why it works. You just need to have it on the same wifi as the movies you want to be transferred and no matter the format voila. These glaringly fake walls apple seems to enjoy putting up, I mean, Am I to think they are thinking 10 years down the line with this? What a horrible thought.Anyway, Cheers!

Yes, VLC for Mobile is a hidden iOS gem. Not that many people seem to know about it.
Cheers for sharing the link.
Add some detail to the "have the files on the same WiFi". There must be a protocol to move them:
WebDav (where one end plays a web server 192.168.1.1254:8080 for example)
ftp (where a deamon app accepts file requests ftp://192.168.1.254/root/movies/shaft)
nfs/samba networked file shares
What does VLC like to use to load these movies onto the IOS device?
It doesn't have to load anything onto the device unless you want to. It can stream over SMB, FTP, UPnP/DLNA media servers and the web.
From the App Store description ...
If you have a PC that is connected to the same network as your iOS device, you punch in the HTTP:// nr your VLC app gives you. It opens a browser window on your computer onto where you drag your files, they load into your iOS device VLC app
I just discovered that the free VLC for MacOS can be used to play audio from iOS devices over iDAM. It always irked me that in order to do that I had to run it through a DAW like Garageband.
Just open VLC after setting up iDAM, then go to File > Open Capture Device > Capture. Then enable Audio and select the iOS device.
I use VLC to stream audio/video from Mac or iOS to the Google Chromecast attached to my TV. Apple (maybe not surprisingly) doesn't support Google's device, but using VLC on Apple devices is a good alternative.

It's very nice 4 sure, and IDK why it's up? Maybe there are some prior student activists at apple too, not ready to axe it? I want to check with VLC before iOS update to see if it's still working. Otherwise, I might not have any videoos
It sounds like I would want to set up a Raspberry Pi media server to stream content. I had this functionality about 5 years ago but let them go dormant.
Or I could go Mac Mini but once I do that I’ll get lost in OS X tools for a while.
Maybe it’s time for a fresh R Pi ready to run bundle. It’s such a fun little bundle of options.
I've had VLC on my iPads for years, since needing an agnostic video player. It's also on Apple TV, which is interesting...
Oh wow! Nice find!
