Is there such a thing as a hardware Animoog style controller?

  • I got aMIDI to CV coverter from Midimuso called an Octex, designed to take polyphonic MIDI input and convert it to 4 CV outs... I wonder if he does something similar that works in reverse

  • Very cool, thanks for the tip. https://midimuso.co.uk/index.php/octex/

Sweet Sixteen and GESS by Tesseract is around $250, not bad.
Befaco makes the VCMC ($350) and CV Thing. Doepfer A-192-2 and A-192-1 (discontinued).

I think I'll stick with cheap plastic MIDI controllers, and miRack and Drambo. Just need a 15" iPad now. :)

  • If I plugged in a Seaboard would it work the same way as the on screen keyboard, or would I have to map it myself? Pushing the key, then dragging it up and down to modylate the X/Y spin of the dot on screen? I would consider seaboard if I could use the presets for each sound the same way as with the app. Im not adverse about learning animoog, but I’d like for it to work the same way I use it now if I get a controller

As we’re on the topic of Animoog, is there a midi keyboard that works with it the way the keys o. The screen does when just using the app? I would like

I think you'll be wanting an mpe controller?

It’s fairly difficult to say if I wan’t the Sensel Morph. I would look like I’m larping everytime I sit down at a Cafe! But besides that, does it have a piano outlay? And can it work the same way as the keys in the app in animoog, that it reacts in this spesiffic way based on where you touch the keys?I wouldn’t be able to map that out myself so I was hoping if you connected the right type of controller it would just work the same way? I need to know :p

There is a piano overlay for the morph (I recommend visiting their site). Yes the overlays can be set up
so that position information is sent out as a midi cc (true of pretty much all mpe devices).

Morphs may be in short supply.

  • Best value in town for the morph. You can stack them which can give several octaves (got 3, 1 thunder to control multiple cc, 2 pianos). For finger drummer, better look somewhere else (a used maschine mikro MK3 is doing great !)

I'm not sure to be honest. I've played with one but only briefly. I haven't tried setting one up. They're odd. I have a Lightblock M which is really impressive but I barely ever use it

If I read this article correctly

    https://www.animoog.org/tag/midi-mpe/

    it should work

  • I always forget that my QuNexus can do MPE. Never actually tried it. I bought it to send CV to my Werkstatt.

I also have a Lightpad Block M (well, I have two, don’t ask) which are also rarely ever used. There are, however, some interesting looking apps you can download to the Lightpads, from the ROLI app, and also from github https://anthonyalfimov.github.io/Lightpad-Block-List/ - maybe I should try some.

Some of these look excellent! I should absolutely try them too

  • So many interesting controllers available these days.

  • It's worth mentioning that the QuNexus also does CV to MIDI, in addition to MIDI to CV.
The input on the right is TRRS, unipolar 0-5V.
KMI sells a CV Cable Kit which has the required adapters, so converting 2x CV sources to MIDI CCs is possible.
