  • Just waiting for the next update because it's supposed to fully support external drives for editing. Right now it copies the file to the iPad. Once they get full support it'll be great because I want my storage for my music apps and samples.

    Would love BPM grid snap.

    +100000000000

I keep on saying it, there's only one audio visual editor
that does BPM grid snap and that's Magix Vegas.

It was initially developed by Soundforge then Sony took over and now Magix has it.

LumaFusion is still bound by traditional video editing in this regards.

CapCut just added a BPM tool. I have not tried it yet, but for a free editor, it has a lot of rad features.

    Yup @tahiche mentioned it. 😏

Agreed, it does have some very cool things.

CapCut just implemented a beat sync thing that’s actually quite useful. I know CapCut is super basic, specially compared to Luma, but it’s free and it’s actually quite ok. A lot better than iMovie.

    I have Capcut as well.

    It syncs to beat now?

    Can we set tempo?

You can set beats or it auto generates them. I only did a quick test to write this, since it’s a new feature and I haven’t used it. But it seems to figure out the tempooo…. Stop right there!.
That test was done with the stock (terrible) tunes, it can’t seem to auto generate the points on your own audio. That sucks. See how the “auto generate” section at the bottom is missing….

Guess you could do it manually but it’s stupid. The way it works for video is that splits, resizing, etc snap to the beat points, so you’d save some time but probably more useful (if) used for few occasions. At least it’s more accurate than having to guess and correct… Why does it detect it’s own material?. Maybe they’re Apple loops?. No idea.

Off the top of my head, as I’ve yet to use
it myself, does it have more than one audio lane?

If so we could use a stock loop to set the
tempo and line up our tracks to it if our
    tracks have the same tempo.

For instance one of their loops is at 100Bpm
and our track is at 100Bpm.

    Import footage and edit accordingly.

I’ll do a couple of tests
    and see what happens.

There’s no indication of bpm on their tracks. And it’d be pretty limiting anyway.
I wonder if they figure out the tempo with some meta tags embedded in the file.

Here’s some info I just found:
In ID3v2 tags, the BPM is stored in the 'TBPM' frame. This is part of the ID3v2.x standard.
In Xiph comment tags, the BPM is conventionally stored in a field with the key 'BPM'.
In APE metadata tags, the BPM is stored in an atom named 'BPM'.
In MP4 tags, the tempo is stored in a 'tmpo' atom. This is part of the MP4 standard.
In ASF tags, the tempo is conventionally stored in a field 'WM/BeatsPerMinute'.

Maybe if the file contains that metadata it’d be able to figure it out?

Anyway, it’d be easy and helpful if you could just input the bpm manually. That’d be enough for most cases if those dots were set at a distance according to tempo.

If the BPM info is contained in
a metadata file then quite feasible
we could edit the metadata or add
the metadata to our own files?

Granted it’s another hoop to jump
    through but it’s a thought.

Anyway, it’d be easy and helpful if you could just input the bpm manually. That’d be enough for most cases if those dots were set at a distance according to tempo.

    Agreed, much simpler, straightforward
and would get really good results.

Has anyone emailed them to find out?

  • @Gravitas If the BPM info is contained in a metadata file then quite feasible we could edit the metadata or add the metadata to our own files?

I’m just guessing. But could be, it makes sense that the bpm is on the metadata.

It would be really cool if it were possible.
The only way we will know is if we ask.

  • I remember when it used to have AU support Hope they finally made it stable with it.

  • Yessss. I have been dreaming about this fo a looong time.

  • Interesting to see if AUv3 can be used for video-plugins. There are so many video-fx apps out there. Intervinectivity would be a huge gamecha…. Nah F it. I’m not gonna say THAT word.

  • That'll be useful, but I'm sure it will be Audio FX plugins only.

  • Well we have seen VS - Visual Synthesizer lately. Some devs might head in that that direction… if not i’m more than happy that audio fx is on the road map 😊

  • Being able to export as an AAF and bring it into Auria Pro (the only DAW on iPadOS that supports video playback and or AAF import) would be really cool too. That would bring a near complete workflow for most.
Sidenote I wish Auria would get an overhaul and fixes. It has so much potential to be the Pro Tools of iOS but still missing some things like better file structure, keyboard shortcuts, mouse support and a better UI etc

    Good idea.

I can live without the keyboard shortcuts and mouse support
but in regards to the file structure and bug fixes agreed.

It's my go to for doing studio sessions on iOS.

I can understand that. I just feel that it would help speed up the workflow and wouldn’t hurt to be added but that another conversation for another thread.
