It should charge. How many watts can the external power source supply? If the hub is connected to iPad by a cable, does the cable support PD?
Does the PreSonus audio interface require a USB-C connection? Or is it just high-speed USB 3.1?
I suspect that the best way to get 5 USB 3.0 ports will be to connect a conventional powered USB hub to a USB port on the main dock. Requiring a USB-C dock with that many ports will certainly limit your options.
And I do not believe you will find a USB-C dock that offers a full USB-C port. It's likely to be for storage only.
Edit: could you please link the acer hub/dock you are using? The only ones I can find are mega expensive.

So, it sounds like your hub is basically working, as it should, just has a few technical issues.
When you use the PreSonus interface connected to the hub, are you using one of the USB 3.0 ports? Are you able to see the audio and MIDI ports from the interface in AUM or Audiobus? If you cannot see any of the interface ports, you may be using a wrong cable or adapter to connect the PreSonus.
What I meant about a powered USB hub is the following: These multifunction USB-C docks usually have no more than 3 USB A ports. But you can connect a conventional powered hub to one of those ports as an "extender". I wouldn't put a high-speed interface on the extender, but it should be fine for USB MIDI keyboards and controllers.
Thanks for posting the link to your dock. Funny that it has USB-C PD and VGA. Really up to date, and pretty old school at the same time.
The strange thing is, yesterday de iPad output sound could be heard interrupted and delayed, as if processor was overloaded.
Today I hooked-up the SX-7 to the usb hub and then again the Presonus with the originaliteit cable. Again troubles. Then reconnected again with different cable (again USB c to b). It worked!
How could the original supplied OEM not work? It works however i suspect the sequence of switching on gear/Hooking up make the difference.
A reason could be that a lot of offices stil use installed VGA connections here in the Netherlands in conference rooms for connecting the laptop to the beamer.

Good. I've read that turning the USB-C plug over may make a difference. It will connect either way, but maybe it's not quite perfect.
I’m pondering if I can use my Lightning cck3 to my ipad Pro M1 with a tiny lightning to usbc adapter like this one?
Any experience with such setup?
You should check whether that adapter is meant to handle Lightning adapters, and not just power. Also, the extra signal conversion (USB–>Lightning–>USC-C) will not be ideal, but might be OK for MIDI.
If only I could check it... It's a cheap thing, costs around 10 bucks, there's no tech specs
So that sounds a little suspicious. Are there any hints in the product description? You need to read it very carefully, and don't assume anything not stated explicitly. Alternatively, just buy it and try it; a throwaway experiment.
