MXL 910 Microphone — 50 bucks, today only

Good general purpose budget LDC mic—great for this price. Wouldn't be my first recommendation but if you only have dynamic mics and are interested in adding an LDC this is a great first option - especially for 50 bucks. I've had good luck with it as an acoustic guitar mic and room mic. Would probably do well on other acoustic instruments though placement is going to matter a little more than it would with a nicer mic. Would also probably be fine for vocals but I never tried it (where 'fine' == better than your 57 unless you're screaming)

  • @syrupcore: how would you compare it to an AT2020? I assuming you have experience with one.
I got one from Guitar Center for $50 a couple months ago and I really think it's a super awesome mic for vocals or whatever.

  • I've never used a 2020 so I can't really compare, sorry. The at 4047 is one of my favorite mics on earth at any price. If they share similar sonic characteristics (the 2020 and the 4047 that is) this MXL will send brighter. Reading about it online a bit that would make sense as it has purposeful peeks at 5k and 10k.

I used 910 on a couple of sessions at a friends house (he owned it) and was pleasantly surprised at how well it tracked both strummed and picked guitar. I don't remember where we placed it but I do remember spending a bunch of time fiddling with it. We also used it as a mono room mic on a small drumkit, again being patient with deciding where to place it. We had other better mics on hand but he wanted to give it a work out and it sounded good in the end.

I need another mic like I need another iOS synth but if I was in the market, I'd definitely give this a shot at $50
