Who doesn’t hate Skrillex?
Me in 2011 long before I knew what pre-Skrillex (aka REAL) Dubstep was. This documentary reinforced my love for the type of Dubstep that was pure art.
I love that doc, watched it a while ago. really great and well done!!
I also absolutely love skrillex, I also love burial and "real dubstep". Skrillex is a great producer, has a great work ethic and he's a lot of fun live.
He's also a stand up dude, ive partied with him a handful of times, super chill and low key.
Uh…
Uh…
Gets me everytime...

Did he die?
I’ve recently been asking myself “I wonder why no one makes dubstep anymore?”
'British' dubstep and Skrillex dubstep are different genres.
Checking it out. Thanks.
"Dubstep" has evolved into the broader term "bass Music" theres many sub genres. Its not original UK Dubstep thats for sure, but theres a lot of great stuff out there.
IVY LAB - Stellar productions
Tsuruda is another great one..
(migraine headache)
My introduction to dubstep was Nero’s “Doomsday” from the Borderlands 2 preview YouTube video. Coming from a rock/metal background with a healthy appreciation for NIN, Marilyn Manson the “brostep” that this video maligns and the ”metalstep” genre it spawned are my preference. I guess like any other genre, people hate when what they love about a musical style evolves into something different. To each their own I suppose. Still, interesting to see the roots of the genre.
I don't know that dubstep evolved so much as people in the US decided to create something pretty different, but for some reason gave it the same name. It's like if Korn created nu-metal but for some reason decided to call it hip hop, and that became the name that everyone used from that point on. You're going to annoy some people...
I dig the aesthetic of a lot of glitchhop, wububstep, beatz thingies etc. The production makes a lot of it difficult to listen to with headphones while working though. I get the bass and crispy high super compressed yaddah yaddah is probably necessary for the venues of clubs and big open air festival stuff though. Headphone friendly mixes that don't take years off my eardrums would be nice to discover.
PS. I love Tipper but OK I probably OT'ed the thread with that. I am genre impaired.
@AudioGus Tipper is legend. so fun live. super psychedelic stuff

I like Dub
Dubstep, not so much
LOL
@AlmostAnonymous ive only see him at camping festivals, mainly LIB, and Burning Man, where its a slightly different crowd and im usually with my own crew of friends anyways. But yah,, some of those wook crowds are a bit much
Hehe, what is their deal? I imagine a cross section of Techno-hippy-dippy and Rick and Morty fans?
Thats extremly accurate really. Lots of yoga balls.
Just thought I'd describe 1/2 of myself.
😂
Hmmmm. This is a very interesting watch. Somethings that I had assumptions on. Very wild how the smoking ban introduced more of a change in the music…. 🤯.
Oh right I should watch it, lol. bad habit, diving into comments without context. brb
Speaking of new SCORN is hot fiya

Hating Skrillex is a very silly thing if you ask me. You may not like his music, but the dude is a fuckin machine and a workhorse. From emo to the high energy dubstep to his work with Diplo, he’s insanely talented.
He has MAD skills!! I wish I could do 10% what he tears up on his laptop.
absolutely.. he put in the work to get where he is.
i used to see him play as from first to last wayyyy back in the day. now the dude is producing number one singles, and has one of the widest ranges of sounds. Ive seen him do ambient sets, house sets, top 40 sets, dubstep, trap, he does it all, sometimes even all in the same set.
