Does the iPad put out bad mojo?

I don’t want to get all brother Chuck in Better Call Saul, but sometimes I feel the ipad is a source of physical discomfort if I am reclining and holding it on my chest or stomach. The sensation goes away when I move the iPad away.

Am I going all new age fruit loops, or is there some kind of microwaves or other bad mojo for real coming out of this thing?

  • Apple recently did say not to put a number of their devices anywhere close to a pacemaker or other “implanted medical devices.” Can’t be good for bodies without these devices either. The studies that were conducted showed that using an Apple device within range caused these devices to malfunction, and I think it was something like at least 70% of the time.

  • Well there is a proper distance you are supposed to hold it away from your eyes. I forget what it is, but if you hold it too close, and it’s too bright it hurts the eyes after some time. I try to keep it dim as I can, and never keep it too close to my eyes. I admittedly break this rule sometimes, but I try to keep it at a proper distance.

Wow. Sounds like it’s putting some kind of bad vibes out, be it mojo or juju or whatever the technical term is.

  • Power it off and try again.

It's the magnet (and possibly some EMI from RF). Pacemakers and some other implanted medical devices use magnets or induced magnetic fields to change the settings on the device. Putting any sort of magnetic interference too near the medical device can cause the settings to get messed up or even turn the device off.

Probably the ever so slightly contracted muscles, restricted breathing, general mild schoolyard bully sitting on your chest flashbacks. I get the same feeling with a bowl of chips (crisps) on my chest/stomach. For iPad I use a gooseneck stand clamped to a side table to avoid this.

Can you recommend a good one?

  • Sometimes I'm guilty of holding an iPad too close to me. Makes me fuzzy-brained for some reason. No medically implanted devices, just makes me fuzzy-brained. It's why I use my iPad at a table, or I use a lapdesk if sitting on the couch/in my bed.

May be referred pain from some spondyloarthritis which is more pronounced in your cervical and thoracic spine and is felt in your chest and upper adomen. In othe words the bending slightly stooped posture of looking down is not good for your spine and the pain is felt in the distribution of the nerves that are getting pinched. If you have a high BMI (body mass index) you also get pressure effects when you’re looking down like that

Good hypothesis, but I don't get the same feeling from books or the laptop in the same reclining positions though. It's just the ipad.

I have ine mounted on a camera tripod which is great for live sets and ensures that the ipad is set a distance away from my body.
