Can I stick USB C Dongles in Thunderbolt 3 port?
From a general search it seems it should be possible in theory but then Apple...
Basically if I got the USB C to headphone dongle could I put that in the iPad Pro Thunderbolt port and charge via the USB C port? What about the other way round?
Is there any frickin way of of plugging headphones into an iPad Pro (not yet purchased) and charge it at the same time without having to get a third party hub?
Thanks in advance.

OK found this, tucked away discreetly down the bottom of the page https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT207443
"You can use your USB-C Power Adaptor and charging cable with any Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C port on your Mac or iPad Pro."
Are you looking at one of the 3rd party headphone adapters that include a USB-C charging port as well? The Apple adapter is headphones only, unless it's been updated recently. And I believe the new iPad Pros still only have one port, described as Thunderbolt/USB-C 4. Could be wrong, but that's what I see in the specs.
Speaking of headphones and USB-c iPads, is it possible to use a USB-c headphone adapter ona hub (via a usb-a to usb-c adapter so the usb-c headphone adapter can be plugged into the hub)? Did that even make sense?!?!
I need to have headphones and also a usb/midi keyboard plugged in at the same time for portable play time.
Doh, you're right, only one port. I don't know where I got that idea... In my dreams obviously. Yes Apple haven't made it easy on that one.
I’m using the Sharkoon mobile DAC PD for that usecase. It has got an USB-C PD port. You can power the iPad through it, the audio quality is excellent and it is very small.

Thanks this looks like a good solution. I got paranoid about 3rd party products not working correctly but then Apple don't seem to offer any sensible in house solutions. For the price it's worth a shot.
Would a small bus powered audio interface be better here?
I have an audio interface for use of the iPad in my studio but just want a simple setup for composing outside of that. It was simple on my Gen 8 iPad due to the headphone jack
Anyway I’ve just ordered a USB-a to USB-c adapter and will try that with my headphone adapter and USB-c hub. Fingers crossed!
An update on this in case it's of use to anyone. I have managed to use a cheap non-powered USB-C hub (bought from Kmart in Australia), a USB-C to USB-A adapter and the USB-C to headphone adapter and have managed to get headphones and USB-Midi to work! Funnily enough, when I tried this with my TP-Link powered hub it would only work when power was switched on, however the little cheap hub is non-powered. I'm happy though as I can be a little more portable.
